One's got more storage, the other has a better screen; the Apple iPod has iTunes, and the PSP has, uh, Bittorrent. So which one do you think is the better device? It's obvious that the PSP has the gaming edge over the video-enabled iPod (sure, the Nano has Doom, but shyeah, right), but taking into account the units' other features, which gadget would make you willing to dip into your college fund to pick up?
Here's a quick breakdown of the specs:
Video: Screen dimensions
Apple iPod: 2.5-in LCD, 320x240 pixel resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio
Sony PSP: 4.3-in LCD, 480x272 pixel resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio
Video: Codec support (out of the box)
Apple iPod: H.264/MPEG4 AVC, Quicktime
Sony PSP: H.264/MPEG4 AVC, MPEG4 SP, UMD discs
Audio: Codec support
Apple iPod: MP3, AAC, Protected AAC, Audible, AIFF, WAV
Sony PSP: MP3, AAC, ATRAC3plus
Dimensions:
Apple iPod: 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.43 inches (30GB model)
Sony PSP: 6.7 x 0.9 x 2.9 inches
There's no question that the iPod has it over the PSP in regard to storage. And while a 4GB hard drive attachment is now available for the PSP, it adds a bit of heft and bulk to an already comparatively large device. So what's it gonna be? The newly video-ized mainstream hit, or the sleek, widescreen dark horse?
