Looks like MTV's GameØRZ week isn't quite as terribly
out-of-touch as it seemed. In fact, amongst the glorified ads for the Xbox
360 and for some arbitrarily-chosen games are a couple of genuinely interesting features. For those interested in
professional gaming, MTV goes behind the scenes with pro
gamers in "True Life: I'm a Pro Gamer" and also follows the
Cyberathlete Professional
League (CPL) World Tour Finals.
It's not all about the gamers, though; MTV has also gone behind the scenes to take a look at gaming culture. Their
investigation of the support
group "Girlfriends Against Video Games" paints a sad but true story of the
increasingly common
"gaming widow" phenomenon, although this is by no means
limited to girlfriends as the article implies. There's also an
interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, in
which he talks Revolution, Mario and.. Nintencats?
These shows are all available to watch via MTV Overdrive, the
broadband video channel, although you'll need Internet Explorer. If you can stomach that, and the ads, you might find a
few pieces worth your time.
