Prettier graphics?
Huh?
I want the Rev as much as the next guy, but it's supposed to be somewhat less powerful than 360 and PS3 no?

NEWSFLASH: You can own more than 1 console.
More news at 11
Jay @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
What strange idea for a list IGN has there!
im usually a double-console guy. This gen I had an Xbox and GC. though the Xbox had significantly less plays than my cube. The 360 is giving me no reason to buy it, the PS3 is a walking talking joke.
Point 8. hah. so true. Same for Prime. Hell if they were the only 2 rev games coming out I'd still buy it. Prime was just the greatest game ever for me.
David @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Firstly, can I just say I love that picture of Mario and the Revolution featured in the article. Heartwarming stuff.
And I'd pretty much have to agree with all the things listed. I'm extremely excited for the Revolution, though that may be because I'm a Nintendo fan (not fanboy, see) at heart.
And by God is that little white system the sleekest device I've seen in ages.
bd (formerly b) @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
News flash: You'd want to wait if you are going to own only one. Who knows, you might end up having heat issues if you rush to buy one. *cough* 360 *cough*
"Prettier graphics?
Huh?
I want the Rev as much as the next guy, but it's supposed to be somewhat less powerful than 360 and PS3 no?"
Umm, they said "Same games, prettier graphics", meaning: "We're talking about the 360. It has better graphics... sort of, but the same games anyway."
Observer @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
"9) Same Games, Prettier Graphics"
Is that supposed to refer to xbox360 and ps3 or nintendo?
SilverDogg @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
who cares about the powers? i want the games! and where the hell are the games? >_>
xbox360-forums.com @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Now I've read this article, I'll just cancel my xbox 360. Seriously, I can't wait for the Revolution, but at the same time, the xbox 360 will offer me many fun games before, and after the launch of the console.
joss @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
All the next gen console pages have these polls up right now (including the PC) on IGN. Talk about confusing the average IGN reader with that little move -_-
tittergrrl @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Re: Sense and Prettier Graphics
The article expands on each of those points. They were talking about the 360 having the same games, just prettier graphics.
Wonderflex @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
#1 - read the articles before commenting. It really helps. They are saying that the 360 has prettier games, but the same old, same old, as far as gameplay. It's the same games as the last gen fundimentally, but are just prettier, that's all. So if you are a graphics whore, 360 may be for you, but if you want games that aren't the same, steer clear.
Mr. Handsome @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
I think the first 2 reasons refer to the xbox 360....

8)360 Doesnt Have Legend of Zelda
Damn right.
Dnice @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
LOL,
Guys read the article from the link below. Its not even a week yet and the 360 is having heating and system crashing issues. Hmmm sounds like Microsoft MO.
Hmmm you can make that number 11 in reasons not to buy the 360. The real next Gen systems are coming 2006 not 2005.
robotplague @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
I want the Revolution the most out of all next gen systems...but some of these reasons are pretty lame and embarassing. I think they could have put a little more thought into their list without sounding like such fan boys.

Another stupid post Joystiq!
Are you only allwoed to have 1 system?
As for the listing:
True backwards compatability? - We'll see, so far nothing is certain.
Same games, prittier graphics? - I think we can say that for all the next gen systems!
Limited Funds and Quantities - nothing new to launches and why are we claiming Revo will be any different quantity wise?
Revolution is Small, Stylish, and Quiet - its still a prototype design and I doubt people have had the chance to hear how quiet it is.
Girls and Grandpas Will Play Revolution - what and no Girls and Grandpas play any other system?
The Controller Will Change Everything - yes and some people will ove it while other may hate it so this is good and bad depending if you like the new concept.
Wow, every day Joystiq gets worse!
Can the next post be speculating on "Xbox Next/3" now that we know MS is going to be making one and because X360 is out! Hey, we can compare it to other things we know very little about.
I'm all for getting all 3 consoles but this article is just stupid!
Is the follow up going to be 10 reasons to wait for PS3 and if so will most of the 10 reasons be as pointless as there ones were?
Alonando @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Last night I was at Toy's R Us and there was one Premium 360 left but the Mario Cube was sold out!

"NEWSFLASH: You can own more than 1 console."
No I can't, I have to eat. And if it wasn't for the Gamecube I would have only been able to afford a console from this generation a few months ago.
I get what you mean though, if I could afford it I would have bought the other two too. They all have great games.

"True backwards compatability? - We'll see, so far nothing is certain."
Why would you think that? It's been announced, and the rev even has Cube controller ports as you can see from the photos. It IS certain.
"Same games, prittier graphics? - I think we can say that for all the next gen systems!"
Eh? They could've fooled me with their control method that looks like nothing we've ever seen on a gaming console, but hey, if you say so.
LSSLAVE @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
XD you embarrass yourself, this is a copy from an IGN article, so really if anything IGN embarrasses itself...
Wow you are just so... wow... man... wow..
On another note, I think everyone is forgetting a few reasons why the Revo will be good that arent mentioned.
1) Nintendo makes things that last, my launch gamecube (3rd owner of it though :/) runs better than my 2nd PS2
2) Kid Icarus is coming back... KID FSKING ICARUS! We missed you so much Pit!
3) Developer support not seen since the days of SNES, the only one shy is Capcom, but Konami/Namco/Square Enix are all back on the N wagon (anyone notice FFIII looks more fun than FFXII :/)
4) Nintendo is making new franchises. The people who gave us Kid Icarus, Mario, Metroid, Zelda... we are getting MORE!
JS @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
If the Live Arcade system is utilized by Nitendo like is has with the 360 so far then you can count me in for the launch!
I was lamenting with a friend last night the incredible titles that we yearn to play even today that if done right by Nintendo would make them a 360 slayer in my mind. Think about all the great games you played as a kid...with "prettier graphics" and viola, Instant Hit!
Cant wait to get back to Marble Madness, Mario Bros., Track and Field, Contra, Mario Kart, Duck Hunt, etc... I just hope they have a "select all" button in the arcade so I can have all the great classics, forget the new titles!
Ryan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
To everyone who commented on the "Same games, prettier graphics" crap, it refers to the XBox 360. I would have to agree with this comment on some level, because, in effect, the 360 is the exact same machine mechanics-wise as it's little brother. Not really a reason to buy the Revolution, though...
Really and truly, the article only brings up a couple of reasons to buy the Revolution: price and franchise games. There ya go.
David @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM

----
The reason I have to agree with the 'same games, prettier graphics' argument is because so many of the 360 launch titles are already on 'last generation' consoles.
Call of Duty 2
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06
NBA Live 06
Madden 06
How are those quality launch titles when I can already get them on the GC, PS2 and the 360s little bro, already?
m3mnoch @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
yeah. at least all of the revolution reasons (barring #9, revolution has the least capable hardware of the 3) make sense. unlike that dribble-on-yourself piece of fluff from the ps3 guys.....
here's my response to them

Some people (XD) need to chill. Not everybody WANTS to own more than one console at a time. I play Nintendo games. I LIKE Nintendo games.
Some people like to drag out the quantity vs quality, graphics vs game play debate. I will only say this. There is a reason why a lot of folks end up emulating Nintendo games on their Xboxes and PSPs. The games are fun. The best games are fun and playable long after they are proclaimed graphical relics. Between 1985 and 2005 this concept may have been forgotten. RIP: gameplay
David @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
"There is a reason why a lot of folks end up emulating Nintendo games on their Xboxes and PSPs."
----
I have to chuckle after reading this, because it's the absolute truth. More often than not, I get the argument against Nintendo that their games aren't 'mature' enough for the mainstream gamer, and that gets me. Because looking on that same person's PSP, you'll see a ton of emulated Nintendo games on there.
And to them I say, hypocrites.
ManicDVLN @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
What a crappy list of reasons, I can name much better reasons for Revolution.
* 10) Connectivity with Nintendo DS.
* 9) Gfx quality equaling its competitors.
* 8) Game sharing
* 7) Targetted to all demographics
* 6) Exclusive Nintendo games.
* 5) Revolution Will Be a Lot Cheaper
* 4) Cross-console game compability (NES-GC)
* 3) Revolution is Small, Stylish, and Quiet
* 2) Free centralized online service
* 1) Revolutionary gameplay and control
zero2dash @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
(shameless quote stealing from current EGM issue)
"You mean I have more to look forward to (ie Rev controller and how it's utilized) than pretty graphics?
The other two systems will have their good points; non-fanboys can agree on this. X360 has Live, Ps3 has the hardware...Revo has the best games and the gameplay, period. I'm not saying that the other two consoles won't have good games, but the bottom line is that no one makes better games than Nintendo. NO ONE. I don't care what the game is rated or what the age of it's targeted audience is. Nintendo always has and always will make the best games. (Utmost respect to other excellent developers out there like Hideo Kojima, Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Yuji Naka, and the old heads at Square...but they'll never touch Miyamoto in terms of greatness.)
Plus Revolution won't break the bank? Again - sign me up. I'll enjoy DS, Gamecube, and Xbox until I get a Revo and by the time I'm bored with it, X360 and Ps3 will have went through a few price drops and I'll pick up one of those as well.
XD @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Ok,
First: LSSLAVE
so how did I embarass myself? If IGN posted it first and it's stupid, then if you post it, you're even more stupid! If 2 of your friends buy the same TV and have issues with it, would you buy that TV too?
Second: Mr. Handsome
Calling me an MS fanboy? You are out of you damn mind? Of all the systems and companies in the past, MS is the one that has had the least support from me! I hate Halo and I think releasing 2 versions of the X360 was a bad move. Just because I have an X360 doesn't mean I won't get the other 2, I'm critisizing the article not Sony and Nintendo dumb ass!
Not more of the same? Why, because of the new control? Sure there will be some new stuff but there will also be some games that won't work well with it and will use a more traditional control. Also, having some games that are the same but prittier is a good thing if you really like that game!
Third: Chance
if you don't want or can't afford more than 1 system, that's fine, wait it out and get the one you want. If X360 doesn't offer you anything that interests you then you would be a fool to buy it.
Jau Peacecraft @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM

funkflizzle @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
10 bucks says that the revos games a prettier than the crap I've seen on the 360 kiosks. Call of Duty.. looks like something I shuld wipe my duty with. Could easily be an xbox game.... king kong... more like King DONG... game is donkey kong balls. I'm not flaming either. I'm a sony guy... but the 360's graphics... do not match its supposed power and specs. There really isnt much of a difference in the slightest.
I'm so getting a Revo.

XD @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
funkfizzle,
I kinda agree about the launch games not being as stunning as people were expecting, but we also know that X360 is not having its resourses utalized and 1st gen titles don't reflect what the system is capable of.
Zoe @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
You know, I'm hearing a lot of people saying "you don't have to own only one system."
Keep in mind that most households with game consoles only do puurchase on in a system cycle. We are the exceptions. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to throw $300+ three times over at game consoles every cycle. I sure as hell know I'm not.
My plan is to pick up a Revolution first, and then somewhere down the line, and Xbox 360. That'll be it for me. And my ownership of a 360 is still far, far off.
Ryan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM

Touch?
Oh, and the Revolution isn't "truly" backward compatible, either, unless they managed to stuff all of the actual chipsets from all of its legacy systems into that tiny carcass. It's called software emulation, and the only backward compatible system to not use emulation was the (original) PS2, which actually had a PS1 integrated into the design. But I digress...I'm still looking forward to trying out the Revo's new controller, especially after playing on the actual 360.
