OTAM
"How the fuck can anyone say this ISNT next gen?"

Probably because like me, they've been playing games that look and play as good (if not better) for the last year or so on their PCs.

I was hoping that there was going to be a leap forward (past my PC) but it appears that the 360 has merely caught up.

I'm not even reading previous posts but I will share my experience.
I like what they system has to offer, the games look and play great, they system is kinda ugly and the power supply is very bulky but i hid it well. It is a tad loud when playing an X360 game, for everything else it is much more quiet. he online content that was available was abundant even though I didn't care for many of the downloads.
The X360 in no way influences my future desire to get or not get one of the other 2 consoles when they come out. I am pleased with the X360 but I will appreciate it more when I get DOA4 and some other future games.
BTW: FIFA and RR6 are much better then their reviews reflect.

For those with heating problems, I'm guessing it's either a fan problem or where you are putting your console. If you are putting it on the carpet or in an enclosed space in an entertainment center, then that is likely to be your problem. 3.2Ghz processors generate a ridiculous amount of heat. If you put your PC on the carpet or enclosed in a desk...same problem can occur, although the typical ATX case has more room.

My Xbox 360 isn't loud or overheating. Quake 4 and Halo 2 all night! The system is great; I can't wait until games come out that get an appropriate development time frame.

Just wait, Sony will have laser burnout or spindle motor problems. They always do, in everything they make that is laser-equipped (PS2s, DVD players, DVD burners, etc). We will buy PS3s anyway.

IMHO Nintendo is likely to have the most reliable system. I haven't had a problem with a Nintendo product since the orignal NES, and that was after TWO YEARS! Now that I'm more experienced in electronics hardware, I bet the problem was a bent pin which would have been my fault.

That's a good reason for the DS to use carts, and the Gamecube to use miniDVDs. We'll see how the revolution will work with its larger-than-standard discs.

After a long cold night outside of BestBuy I picked up my 360. Cool system - probably the best thing Microsoft has ever built or done software for - the interface is nice and fairly intuitive.

The thing I really wanted out of this next-gen is HD gaming, and this box is looking promising - still some atmosphere missing from the games, but sharpness and detail is great - I have PGR3, COD2, Condemned, and PDZ. All look good but only Condemned seems to be pushing any subtle enviroments on you - the other games are crispy and colorful, a little too much for immersive realism, but it's all amazing.

I hooked up my digital camera via USB and looked at my photos - simple procedure and clear operation. I do however wish you could zoom in and out on each photo.

It can only get better. Nice one Microsoft & developers.

HOWEVER,

The system is very loud. The games do come out of the machine a bit warm, and this was only a spazzy night of switching discs every 45 minutes to look at the next game - I wonder how the disk will fare when a 10 hour gaming night cooks it.

Looking forward to backward-compatible higher-res SC:Chaos Theory...

I only waited in line for 2 hours at my local target. I got PGR3 and COD2 (which has great gameplay but kinda meh graphics) and they're pretty good. For PGR3, the inside the car view makes the game worth it. But other than that, I hope the games get better. And the graphics especially need alot of work. They are certainly nice, but definitely NOT what I was hoping for. I don't think Sony or Nintendo for that matter will have any trouble surpassing Microsoft's effort here. As far as capability of the hardware, I kinda feel like xbox 1.5 moniker people have been giving the system is pretty much true. The blade interface and multimedia capability is pretty nice though. I'm kinda scared actually that my investment might be "dreamcasted". That would royally suck. Not that I'm not going to get a PS3 and Revolution, because I am. I'm just saying.

I love all the people bitching about one small glitch or another in this system (most of which can be fixed easily with firmware updates, thank you Xbox Live) and then condemning the system to failure and saying that the PS3 is OBVIOUSLY going to be better. Hello? Since when does Sony release a videogame system without problems? And they're not usually easy to fix problems either. Remember dead pixels in the PSP? Then they said they would only replace units that had 3 or more dead pixels or some completely bullshit thing like that?
Fuck Sony.
Microsoft may also be a huge soulless corporation, but they are doing right by their gamers. So go ahead and wait for the PS3 if you want. I'll probably get one too, eventually. But in the meantime I'll be playing fantastic high definition games on the greatest videogame system that has ever been released. Period.

There's a serious shortage, it crashes, the hard drive overheats, and I still want one.

"I love all the people bitching about one small glitch or another in this system"

No matter how rare they are, Xboxes that will not play games or will scorch discs are serious problems. At the very best, they are completely broken. At the very worst, they endanger your life.

I have no idea why people in this country can accept such things as "small glitches." It does, however, explain how Ford and Firestone remain in business. I wish Nader would stop trying to run for president and get back to what he is good at, protecting consumers.

Wow, didn't expect my blog post that mentions discs getting hot to get some people so wound up.

It was just something I observed. Sure, all discs (in PC or XBOX or whatever) get warm after playing a while; however, the Madden disc was noticeably hotter after a very short amount of gameplay. Thought it was worth mentioning.

As for the comments about console placement, we had the console on a table in a conference room at my office (not on carpet, not in a cabinet, etc.).

This isn't a showstopper in my opinion. I think it is just something that people might want to know.

My impressions? Um, the box it comes in looks nice. :> I only got a core unit at launch and wanted a Premium package, so up on Ebay it went. I can wait a few weeks to a month or two for nearly $300 in profit.

I have to admit though, I'm jealous of everybody geeking out on PD0 and Geometry Wars. I'm sure Dead or Alive 4 will be out before I get my hands on a premium unit too.

My first experience with an Xbox360 hasn't been good. http://www.fuelburst.com/2005/11/27/xbox-360-demo/ But I'll remain optimistic untill I can really spend some time on one.
