Wired called him the Kingmaker writing, "Walt Mossberg makes or breaks products from his pundit perch at a little rag called The Wall Street Journal." In his Wednesday column he takes the 360 for a spin.He takes it through the paces, testing everything from networking, Xbox Live, different games, and Media Center functionality, praising each; however, his final verdict is qualified. He writes, "for some casual gamers, buying the new Xbox right away could be a mistake" but "if gaming is a big part of your life, and you can afford the $400 Xbox, you won't be disappointed. This is one terrific gaming computer, and a media powerhouse to boot."
This seems to be the consensus amongst mainstream reviews of the unit: that it's hard to recommend at this early stage without more titles and a high price. Yet, the fanboys (holla) will have theirs already; we'll have sat in the cold, dealt with faulty units, paid too much on eBay, all by the time the more casual gamer is prepared to make the leap.
