I don't think *these* games are genre defining, their predecessors were. Still excellent games though.

A question - does Civ4 have online multiplayer or multiplayer at all?

Elpea. Yes, both.

I've got Civ4, such a good game, too bad i can't manage to trade properly (with other human player) in hot seat mode. This is so much fun in single player though.

I love AOE II, perfect for online matches, im sure AOEIII is just as good.

I think Civ4 is better, not just because of the long hours you can spend on it but also because of the little details. For instance, pick the Persians then click on a unit and it will talk Iranian to you, just brilliant! Instead of making mistakes in where people are from, *cough* Prince of Persia *cough*. Back on track, with AOE3 I had a weird feeling, I didn't get a good experience of going through the ages as much as I did with Civ4.

Yes it has @ #2. Online, Lan and Hot Seat. Haven't tried it out yet but it's supposed to work much better than in past Civ games. Maybe they allowed you to play your turns parallely or something...

Btw @ topic: The German gaming magazine I read had the same comparison. It gave Civ IV 90/100 and AoE III 89/100. And they say they still recommend Warcraft III over AoE III, even though it's a little old by now.

Are these games really comparable? The other is a turn-based strategy that actually tries to simulate thousands of years of history in a realistically while the other is an RTS where orcs have been replaced with minutemen.

Yeah the multiplayer is pretty cool, it allows you to take your turns at the same time. You can even play co-operatively which is pretty cool, it allows you to share research and other things. The wireless networking isn't too reliable, but that could just be my network although most other games don't seem to have that problem. I haven't played AOE III but I would be biased towards CIV 4 anyway so I'm not gunna way into the debate.
