The
oft-
talked-about
new controller for the Nintendo Revolution has set
imaginations flying across the game development industry, but as 1up notes, we've seen nothing more concrete than tech
demos so far. Hoping to change this, 1up took five hypothetical game concepts using the controller to third-party
developers, investigating just how practical the "magic wand" might be.
The five concepts: conducting music, spell-casting, lightsaber fights, surgery and telekinesis. Yes, that's right, telekinesis. The developers interviewed are fairly positive, though there are doubts about how realistic conducting games would be—and how unrealistic surgery games would have to be. The only concept that seems to have serious problems is lightsaber fighting, one of the most anticipated uses of the controller, although single-player lightsaber manoeuvres might work well. This generally favourable support, however, bodes well in the light of various worries about the controller design.
