Perfect Dark novel
Following in the footsteps of other Microsoft-owned Xbox launch
titles with novels based on them, comes Perfect
Dark: Initial Vector. While we can't blame PD for trying — maybe just a little too hard — to live up to
some of the "Halo hype", the idea of a novel seems to be stretching it. Some reviews even said the game's
story was "lackluster."
Then again, it has a chance of being successful. They announce it is "continuing the epic storyline" and not retelling it. Also, author Greg Rucka "is an acclaimed thriller novelist and commonly considered to be one of the 'Big Three' writers at DC Comics." You can also check out an interview with Mr. Rucka over at perfectdarkzero.com.

Wow...a book...well, time to go in the discount isle with Halo. Heheheheheh.
Feels good to post on Joystiq again. It's been a while

The story flat out sucks in PDZ.. I mean, I played through it and have no idea what it was about. I'd rather read a story about a slice of bacon.

I actually enjoyed the Halo book from the military perspective. If you're a fan of Starship Troopers the book you would like Halo.
SilverWA @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
Yup, the 1st and 2nd Halo books were downright awesome sci-fi. I'll credit Bungie's large backstory and Eric Nylunds fantastic writing for that.

i have to get the halo book, and im looking forward towards the PDZ book!
BlackYoshi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
See, Halo actually had a good sci-fi story (Sorta Aliens meets Starship Troopers meets Starcraft.). PDZ's story sucks.
Rare Hare @ Dec 18th 2005 9:13PM
eh. i think books made after games is a really lame idea.

Only the latest news from Joystiq!
This book has been out since October 2nd. I had finished it by the 8th.
Anyways, PDZ's story did suck, but this book is awesome. If you liked the original PD story, you will like this book. It is more good sci-fi like the original and not the shitty cartoon story from PDZ.
It explains the whole corporate-run world in much more detail than PDZ, which barely even grazed it. Definitely a must read for any PD fans or for PDZ players that want a better story in the same game universe.

Can't say I've played PDZ (damn you MS Australia and your lame schedule/pricing) but I've read this novel.
To be honest, it was enjoyable for me as a fan of the series but overall I found it lacking in some regards.
For the record (why not) I'm also a huge fan of the Halo novels.
