When you’re in this business, you hear things. Sometimes you hear good things. Other times you hear verrrrrrrry good things. This is one of those times.
Rumors have resurfaced that Ensemble Studios has an Xbox 360 title in the works. In fact, they may have been working on it for almost 2 years.
Hot off the heels of Age of Empires 3, could ensemble be in the latter stages of a 360 game? It makes some sense:
- They are one of Microsoft’s premiere development studios, but have yet to develop for Microsoft’s flagship gaming console
- Xbox marketing guru, Peter Moore, has hinted that over 200 titles are in various stages of development across the developer community, even though only a fraction of them have been announced
- Moore also recently let slip that Rare, another Microsoft studio, is secretly deep into development on 2 unannounced 360 titles
More interesting are questions around what type of game Ensemble might make. An RTS? It’s not the most popular console genre, that’s for sure. Would they branch off in a new direction? Or take an existing property and reinvent it for a different genre in the way that Blizzard has taken Warcraft and Starcraft in new directions?
The mind boggles. But it sure is fun to think about.
