Robbie Bach, chief Xbox officer, was interviewed by Mercury News staff writers John
Boudreau and Dean Takahashi just prior to the Xbox 360
launch this week. If you're wondering how the Xbox 360 fits into Microsoft's vision of the digital living room, the
interview provides a couple of clues.
Bach also lets on to the ways in which he's trying to change Microsoft to allow the company to compete with more nimble competitors. He remarked that decision making with the original Xbox was "a little constipated" in that decisions had to "go up the chain and down the chain [of command]." With the Xbox 360, decision-making was more decentralized, which may explain why the company was able to launch its next-generation console sooner than rivals Sony and Nintendo.
Interesting choice of scatological metaphor. We won't run with it, tempted though we are.
