Holiday gift guide roundup
'Tis the season for gaming holiday gift guides. Here are several guides to get you
started, and be sure to stay tuned for Joystiq's official 2005 gaming guide in the coming weeks.
-
Gamespot features a console specific list and is the most comprehensive gaming gift guide we've found. Their top game picks include RE4 (GC), Civilization IV (PC), Forza Motorsport (Xbox), God of War (PS2), Advance Wars (DS), Burnout Legends (PSP), and Nintendogs (DS).
-
Barnes & Noble contains their top picks on games from all platforms. We're not quite sure about their logic since it's a hodge podge of random games.
-
CNET has the goods broken down by affordable, midrange, and expensive prices. Toping the list are the GameCube, GBA, Micro, Xbox, DS, PS2, and ironically, the N-Gage. Looks like they just picked everything.
-
Gamestop's guide is console specific citing top selling games. See also the now sister company EB Games guide as well.
What's on your wishlist? And what has been your take on 2005 gaming as compared to previous years?

I think 2005 was a marked improvement over 2004 and (especially) 2003, one of the weakest years ever for video games. Dragon Quest 8 (probably the best game released this gen with the exception of maybe Rez), Minish Cap, Ys 6, Radiata Stories, Castlevania:DOS, Mario Kart, Phoenix Wright, Sonic Rush, Lumines, Meteos, Shadow of the Colossus, Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, there were just lots of quality games out, even though both GC and Xbox seemed to have been all but forgotten. We've definitely hit the peak of this generation, now things'll be slow until PS3/Revo/X360 kick into gear.

I cannot understand the Advance Wars DS thing. This (imo) is the worst game I have played in a while - and reminds me why I should never listen to reviewers. It is so boring and stupid and pointless ahhhhh!
Being the first game that I bought for my ds (because of high ratings) it actually made me regreat buying the DS until I played Mario 64, and Kirby Canvas Curse. This is the only game on DS that i cannot play through it sucks that bad.

All I want is Animal Crossing for DS.
I found this year to be a pretty good for games, especially for the DS and PC. I've been kept quite busy. :)
