This post goes out to all you search engine optimizers and meta tag gurus. We did a quick
analysis of the big three console makers meta data on their official websites. Here are the few interesting
tid-bits we extracted:
-
All three sites have a Google PageRank of 7/10.
-
Here's what Microsoft's meta keywords are: "xbox video game system, xbox home, xbox home page,x-box,x box, halo, halo 2,halo 3,xboxlive,xbox360,microsoft xbox, game video." Seems like the company is really banking on the Halo name, which would make sense.
-
Nintendo's are as follows: "Nintendo, GameCube, GCN, Nintendo DS, Dual Screen, Game Boy, Games, micro, Video games, 64, Super NES, NES, Wi-Fi, Wifi, Mario, Donkey Kong, DK, Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid, Samus, Luigi, Star Fox, Kirby." The Samus one was interesting. Nintendo also seems to feature their recently launched games in their title tag (i.e. right now it's Mario & Luigi on the DS).
-
Here's Sony's: "home, PlayStation.com." Not a lot here, and this shows the limited value of meta keywords given Sony's 7/10 PageRank.
So what does this mean? Other than exploit a company's meta strengths and/or weaknesses, it shows what the three
companies are currently targeting online. Most are expected, but in many cases, SEO data comes straight from top
level execs.
