As a long-term gamer, it can often be frustrating to sit back and watch games companies repeat the same mistakes time after time. Getting into the games industry is notoriously difficult—but one well-established route involves creating a game, or portfolio of games, to show off your enthusiasm and skills.

Why stop there? Once you can create games, why not form your own company and sell games from the comfort of your own room, garage, basement, office… Even in this climate where titans dominate the games industry, independent projects are still making it big.
