Get RSS on your PSP with new firmware
Good or bad news for PSP owners, depending where your priorities
lie. Sony have released the latest firmware
update for the PSP, version 2.60—although this latest release comes without much
fanfare, it does include several useful features such as
RSS support, Chinese language encodings in the Web browser, and WMA playback. Video with copyright protection can also
now be downloaded.
While none of these features are particularly outstanding, this latest update adds another set of obstacles to those
trying to get homebrew software working on the PSP. Currently successful attempts have been made with version 1.5 and
2.00 (which is downgradable), and the frequent firmware
updates mean that hackers have to keep running to catch up.

Give us 3.00 already. Release a keyboard so we don't have to use that painful on-screen crap thing.
And fix the Music Player. And then we'll be happy. :)

I'd like a Memory Stick file manager so i can download videos from my webserver and move them into the proper folder. Maybe this new update will do it automatically that since it says "Video with copyright can now be downloaded".
Also, WMA support is cool, but how about some better h.264 support (full resolution, proper framerate handling, etc).

Give all the extras streaming movies, flash, internet radio etc. They already screwd us with the games now give extras.

Word to the hackers and crackers, keep it up boys, everytime you crack that latest firmware Sony has to release new firmware to stop the pirates.
Thing is they also throw in little upgrades like WMA support along the way to justify the new firmware release.
By the time we are on firmware release 5.0 or something the PSP may even be a fully functional multimedia handheld.
Whoknows??

I went to Chinatown and saw a dude buy a used White PSP that was downgraded to 1.5 and he had no idea what 1.5/2.0/2.5 firmware was... How many people are REALLY updating the firmware on their PSP? I get the feeling that more than 80% of PSP owners have no idea what firmware is...

"Give us 3.00 already. Release a keyboard so we don't have to use that painful on-screen crap thing."
Screw that...give us some freakin GOOD online games instead.
I'm not much of a fan of GTA so the last game I bought for it was Burnout Legends.
The more I see these announcements about upgrades to everything BUT the games, it seems like they are giving up on the games for the system.

How about this: let people scan and quick-connect to an Wi-Fi access point. I can't believe I have to *configure and save* a network connection setting everytime I want to connect to an open access point.
That, and remove the retarded restrictions on video encoding, including folder and file naming conventions.

RSS? Sweet. Podcasts would be nice too.
Aron @ Dec 18th 2005 9:38PM
Actually the _only_ RSS support seems to be for podcasts, and just streaming of them at that... no downloads. =/
