We've seen him before, now see him again, only this
time performing the Mario classic on an 11 string bass. This is amazing talent from Jean Baudin of Nuclear
Rabbit. Be sure to listen for the coins at the end of the
video (right click to

Also, follow the link to see our recent roundup of Mario covers and add another to the list.

It is awesome, and way better than I could ever do, but I'm pretty sure that this is the same as the 9 string rendition. I don't think he ever touches those top two strings... still, AWESOME talent!

Well, I am insanely impressed by what that guy can do, I think it's time he ditched the bass guitar and picked up a Chapman Stick (www.chapmanstick.com). It's played essentially the same way he's playing that bass. And then he wouldn't have to play such an ugly bass guitar. As far as comparing him to that japanese guy, this bass guitarist impressed me way more. That guitarist from before has so much distortion that it doesn't really take much to do what he's doing. Plus he hits so many off notes, it makes me wonder why he didn't do a second take.

I have to agree with #10. The asian kid who played the Mario Bros. theme made plenty of mistakes, especially near the end.
Getting those coin sounds isn't very hard. It's just a few harmonics with heavy distortion.
How can you compare a kid playing a standard six string guitar to a dude playing an eleven string bass and straight tapping?
Next they'll be making fun of Justin King. :(

Notice I said the sound effects are better, which they are.
The fact that it takes more talent to play a nine string bass is of no consequence to a gamer/non-guitarist like me ;)

By any chance does anyone have this in WMV or MPEG format? If so, I can host it.

Nij, I found the video file of the Japanese guy here.

I was more impressed by the 11-string bass guitar player. Maybe I should host a video of my sister playing the 'power star' portion of the game on her piano.

I thought that Japanese guy was the guitarist that does the music from the Guilty Gears games, but maybe it was another video.

I was wondering...why does everyone, including Joystiq, think this guy is so amazing? Purely as a musician, he's terrible. I have no doubt that he can play this song, but to my ear, he's rushing like there's some sort of race, which causes him to simply skip notes because he doesn't have enough time to play them. I'm really not very impressed with his playing at all.
