Since Midway severed ties with well known game designers John Romero and John Sawyer, Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows has taken a turn that the game's remaining developers believe will appeal to longtime fans of the series. Initially slated to be an RPG hack 'n slash (similar to Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath), Seven Sorrows has toned down its story and RPG elements in favor of a faster and more action-oriented experience.
As in previous Gauntlet entries, there will be environmental hazards, mini-puzzles, and hordes of enemies thrown at you, but new combat moves have been introduced to give gamers a greater sense of control. The launch attack will hurl enemies into the air while the knock down move can be used to clear openings and give you a little breathing room.
Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows will be available for PS2 and Xbox on 12/12. The PC release has been canceled.
