Xbox 360 all tricked out with 60GB HD and stuff
The modding studs that brought us
the first Xbox 360 controller mod have entered our
"Pimp my Xbox 360 faceplate contest" with a bang and a
bling. Their silver and blue Xbox 360 mod includes a case cutout, blue LED lighting, and a 60 GB hard drive upgrade
that brings the total storage capacity of the box to 80 GB.
If you're not totally scared away from entering now, there's still time left to throw your own mod in the ring for a chance to win the prize of three Xbox 360 games. See the contest post for details. We're basing judging purely off of the faceplate, so as impressive as the entire Llama package is, you really do still stand a chance.

Hey, where's my thanks? lol
vc @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Justin - I'm not sure I understand your question.
Justin @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Hehe, I sent it in as news. You must have seen it before I did.
Drew @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
60 gig hard drive, how did that go in there, usb? or hacked?
Scott Vieth @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
So the 60 gig drive extra can be used for media from your PC ... but NOT for xbox downloads. I wonder if this means a simple mod for the ultra-pricey hard drive!
vc @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Justin: it was posted as an entry in the contest I'm running here: http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000777069793/
I saw it the minute the comment was made.

Nice job! Let loose the hackers/modders!
Jago @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Wow...all they have to do next is find a way to let u rip games to the hard drive and thenI'll think about buying one :-P
Xbox 360 Maniac @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Wow, bling box no doubt.
Finally a 360 worthy of ebay prices...
Rare Hare @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
best.mod.ever.
Corey @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
This 360 is awesome, their is no telling what this would go for on ebay right now.
Osiris @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
The HD is mounted via USB so that it is displayed as external storage. Too early for some hacked method of connecting one..
mike @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
so the hd cant be written to, bah whats the point?
Josh @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Drew- look at the pic. It's a 60GB 2.5" notebook drive that is situated directly on top of the DVD-ROM.
This worries me in two ways - first the vibration from the DVD may be significant (dunno, I don't have a 360) and the gap they're using for the drive may have been left there for a purpose, say for airflow. I know that apparantly there are some heating issues with the thing, so I'd shy away from any internal mods at this time.
The guys at MS aren't stupid (far from it) - there is a reason they put the drive on the outside of the case. Even if there is room on the inside.
That said, it's a great mod!

I played an xbox360 today in PcWorld england, I thought that the controller was nice, the console looked nice but the DEMO hdtv was a piece of shit.
Also what happened to anti-aliasing?
The games I played were:
*CoD2 (Gfx were lame compared to what i'd hoped)
*KingKong (Scenery was amazing, gameplay terrible and the t-rex looked PSone tech demo)
*Kameo, looked promising but some little punk was trying to tell me what to do so I quit it.
ZeroCorpse @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
A lot of places have the demo TVs set to the wrong resolution, or they have the 360 set wrong. This makes a huge difference. The games really are quite gorgeous on a properly-set-up system.
brad77 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Josh, I think that they put the drive on the outside of the case so that you can remove it for easy upgrades. Since cracking the case would void your warranty (and is somewhat difficult), it doesn't make much sense to put it in there.
Great mod, btw.
Mike @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
im doing the 60 Gb hard drive one. I may also do the front LEDs but my sodering skills are not something I want to use on a brand new $600 system.
At least now its possible to watch and transfer movies and music on a hard drive within your 360 (which should of been enabled with the default drive, lame microsoft)
hibiscusroto @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Wonder if they repaired the dvd drive while they were at it.
Murc @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
yeah, MS put the HD on the top for easy transportability. So if your going over to a friends house and you like rap and they like rock, you can put your HD in their system and have your custom tracks...as well of course as every saved game you have.
I love that mod!
I'm suprised by how quickley it was done and how clean it looks. I looked through the pics, and if I was going to change one thing it would be to get rid of those lights inside the case,.......or at least move them. I like to see the glow of the lights...not the lights themselves.
stevie @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
"Wonder if they repaired the dvd drive while they were at it."
what problem with the dvd drive ... its fine as long as idiots dont change the orentation with the disk in the draw ... if your stupid enough to move the console with a disk in the draw well mayb u deserve the scratched disks

If someone could write a paging program that detects what game is being played and swaps that game's data from the extra drive to the XBox drive, you could essentially have a large XBox drive (though the waiting for the swap to complete might be a PITA).
