Besides the iPod, the new Xbox 360 is leading the way in the consumer electronics shift from 2004. If only every year could bring us a new console launch. Last year, gaming consoles landed themselves in the ninth position on the list of most desired gifts. A telephone survey has revealed that this year, however, gaming machines have moved up into the top three. The International Herald Tribune says the apparent hype behind the 360 is prompting shoppers to get out there and attempt to get one. We know that worked out for a lot of people on November 22nd, as 450,000 units were sold on its first day (so say analysts, that is). The story says that Microsoft will try and get 550,000 more consoles into the hands of gamers through the end of the year, which will account for "$800 million in additional revenue."
