Geometry Wars on your PC: Binary Zoo's Mono
If you haven't bought an Xbox 360 but followed our
48-hour gaming marathon, you'll know that a simple arcade game called Geometry Wars was
our favorite title on the 360. And in case you were
wondering, the reason we thought this wasn't because we were sleep deprived.
Geometry Wars takes its inspiration from an arcade game called Robotron 2084, a game that Joystiq's editor
wasted spent his childhood playing. That
same game is the inspiration for Binary Zoo's Mono. With one important difference to Geometry Wars.
Mono is playable on your PC, mouse and all. Not one for the arcade purists — but it's still a bucket load of
fun. So get yourself over to Binary Zoo's site and devote the rest of the week to shooting little colored blobs.

I always found that these type of games never translated well to the PC. I much rather have the two joystick layout. I guess I could go buy two joysticks, but that would only work if the game supports it.

Geometry wars on 360 is definately an amazing game. Very tripy. I love it. I'm beginning to see the huge value of Xbox Live Arcade. I can't wait to see what new games come in the future.
It's also great that you can download game demos (about 500mb each in size) from Xbox Live. Very cool. And much better than waiting in line on Fileplanet for PC demos. Also HD movie trailers along with HD game trailers are available. Quite a bit of stuff to download. My favorite is the new HD trailer of the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

Dear Game Designers,
If you are going to create a game, please include a 'windowed mode'. A perfect example of a game that runs in a window is http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/n.html.
Sincerely yours,
A pissed off workplace gamer.

Amazing.
I haven't really seriously thought about buying a 360, being the closet Nintendo fanboy that I am (come on, we all are to some extent). But if Geometry Wars is anything like this, i might actually consider it. Does anyone else find that ironic...?

Well then you'll be glad to hear that Robotron 2084 is actually coming to Xbox Live Arcade next week.

Geometry Wars is all find and dandy but that Mutant game (forget the full name) is more enjoyable in my opinion. Same exact control scheme.

Call me old school, but the simplicity of this game + the gameplay = Excellent pick up game! no difficult instructions, no difficult controls; just fast and furious play time! When I need difficult and long, I'll tackle Oblivion (when it eventually arrives). Until then..it's MONO! If more games like this were in arcades, perhaps I'd go to them again. (btw, using a trackball on this game is the way to go!)
