Anger. Frustration. Fear. Grief. Hysteria. The list of emotions that the Dark Side gaming can bring
is long and rich, but 'relaxation' is not often one that springs to mind. However, USC's
Electronic Arts Innovation Lab has produced a new game,
Cloud, which is designed to elicit more than the usual gaming reactions.
The game's premise is fairly simple—fly around, dragging clouds behind you. However, it features a soothing soundtrack
and tropical graphics, allowing players to get into the spirit of flying. The mouse control is a little difficult to
adjust to but works pretty well, and there's something satisfying about flying around and seeing a bunch of clouds
light up. It may not have much staying power amongst FPS junkies with hair-trigger-reflexes—in fact, it may bore them
to tears—but it's an interesting experiment especially amongst non-gamers.
