...and they have a .000000000000009% in regards to sales of the overall game industry.

Plus by the time that the Mac gets a top PC game, it has already been out for a year on the PC and the expansion pack is almost ready to come out.

It's nice to see the Mac getting some gaming recognition from a fairly large source like Joystiq. The Mac is a very powerful platform in terms of graphic power -- the Mac OS X GUI is nearly to the point of being powered fully by the GPU. And keep in mind that the Xbox 360 uses the same family of CPU found in Apple's Power Mac G5. Additionally, the Nvidia cards for the Mac are some amazing pieces of engineering, and make their PC countparts look like yesterday's models. I only wish I could afford a setup like that... :)

...and all that power is useless with no games to use it.

Quake3 Arena Demo was released on a Mac before any other platform.

Oh, and ever hear of a little game called Halo? Guess what, originally a Mac game -- Microsoft bought Bungie out and made them retarget exclusively for the Xbox. If you have the Halo2 Special Edition, you can see a lot of the original map demos are on a Mac.

That said, I tried three of the OMG games, and they... um... suck. I weep the loss of Halo more today than ever...

You all are missing the point that macs can play games quite well, there just aren't as many games out for the mac. The negative attitude saying that they can't play them is what's keeping game developers from making more mac games.

...and you're also missing the point that it wouldn't make financial sense to make games for the Mac. Why? Look at the percentage of people who actually own Macs. Now look at the percentage of poeple who actually own Macs that have a powerful enough video card.

PLUS with the exception of Maya, most of the tools used for games are on the PC. 75-80% (I think) of all game work is done using 3dsmax and that is not available for the Mac.

It just doesn't make sense...

#10 - Wrong on all counts! The reason is far more tin hatted.

After all, I did I mention Halo. And Quake, UT, Bungie's other game Marathon -- better than its competitor, Doom. World of Warcraft now. Etc.,etc.,etc.

In terms of money, MS Office (yeah, not a game) runs on the Mac and makes MILLIONS for Microsoft -- hence the continuned development.

Okay, so if it ain't graphics capability, and it ain't money, what is it?

Ask John Carmack.

Apple had a terrible attitude toward game developers for ages. Carmack tells of an appointment Apple MADE WITH HIM, and subsequently snubbed him after his arrival. That was before The Steve, but still that long-standing bad attitude caused more damage to Mac gaming than any of the incorrect reasons PC gamnes usually put forth in threads like this.

WOW! You listed a HANDFUL of games that were initially geared towards the PC and then they ported to the Mac. There are WAY more titles on the PC that are worth mentioning.

If Marathon is so great then why is rarely mentioned even when it was eventually ported to the PC? Doom obviously did something right to make people mention it 10+ years after its release.

You're all missing the point! Why do we always have to have a flame war whenever Mac games are mentioned? You've all got Operating System insecurities!

jago, there is also the factor that Marathon 2 for the PC was only distributed as a boxed copy, whereas anybody and everybody could download the DOOM shareware; similar games, but wildly different marketing/sales methodologies

Hello, people let get this strieght. This was a six week contest. That mean they made the games in six week. and most of the time there were like only two or three people making the game. How can you even put these games in the same class as Halo. Are you stupid or something?
