According to the first official fan site, the next Splinter Cell game will be named: Double Agent. Ubisoft pulled a stealth-move, securing the SplinterCellDoubleAgent.com domain back in October, and then snuck a "Splinter Cell Double Agent" trademark registration form to the US Patent and Trademark office last month. We're still awaiting the official announcement from Ubi, but this is pretty convincing evidence.
[Thanks, Adriaan]

Definetly looking forward to this game. The teaser site's pretty good, pointing you in the direction that the game will go in. Or is it? The title says Double Agent, and could Sarah's death be a cover up as a way to put her into hiding and protection while Sam goes deep underground, solo, with none or little 3rd Echelon support?
Hmmmm, definetly gonna add this to my buy list. I should have my ATI Crossfire ready to go by then too.

lol i just checked out that website
http://www.bewaresamfisher.com/us/media/images/oz593u6o.jpg
this images states that his reason for discharge was CODE 201, when i looked that up it is a real discharge code
the code means:
Enlisted Personnel - Expiration of term of service (includes personnel on ADT as initial trainees)
so basicly sam's term of service is over, so what drove him to rob over 50 banks??
this game is going to rock

I'm very excited about this game. Any info is good info. I beat the first two, but the multiplayer in Chaos Theory completely sucked me away from Single Player. Hopefully a really awesome story like this will keep me interested in SP long enough to beat it.
Also, if it's possible for the MP to get any cooler, I'll be a happy, happy man.

WTF happened to his appearance? That doesn't look anything like Sam Fisher. Are they changing it just for the upcoming (most likely) movie?

According to bewaresamfisher.com,
The effective date for his discharge is September 4, 2008
Sam Fisher was arrested on March 15, 2008 for Armed Robbery.
Notes on that website states that "severe emotional trauma"(from the loss of his daughter and wife; delayed trauma) could be a possible cause of the bank robberies.
As for the game itself, I just hope Amon Tobin returns to do the soundtrack. I love Chaos Theory's soundtrack. Great music!

The cause of Sam's daughter Sara's death could be what drove him to do all his armed robberies. So Sam fisher gets arrested and goes to prison. That leads us to the first mission, trying to excape from prison while its on fire. You excape with Jammie Washington in a hellocopter (Jammie Washington is part of a group of people who do intelagent crimes). And Sam joins them in there team of crime do-ers. Most of the game takes place in the US.
I think why Tom Clancey had Sam Fisher go bad is because he was getting to old. Hes gonna be like 51 in this game. I think at the end of the game your gonna have to be a new agent and try to stop Sam Fisher, and that new agent will be the main character in the next game.
Anyway this game looks amazing and I can't wait. Splinter Cell's my favorite game and aspecialy the versus multi-player. I'm Sure ther'll be tones of cool new moves and gagets.

And what happend to his apperience you ask? If your talking about the X05 Teaser, that wasnt sam fisher. That was a teaser for co-op mode. If you've seen the screen shots of Sam Fisher in jail, he still looks the same except he shaved his head bald.

ok.. heres the idea i'm getting from the stuff i've read... sams in prison to get into a terrorist organization. However, the NSA can't just shove him in prison, he needs a convincing story, a REAL story preferably. So rite before his "discharge" he robs banks, at the NSA's orders and gets caught, by real cops who have no idea whats going on. So while hes sitting in prison, the NSA now has a REAL reason to "discharge" him. There you have it, REAL cover story, perfect set up, nothing to lie about becuase its all actually true, no acting on Sam's part required because he isn't lying about anything, except his discharge. This allows him to focus totally on the situation in front of him. Long live Ubisoft and Sam Fisher

Ok, this is the story. Sarah Fisher, Sams daughter, dies in a car accident while Sam is away on a mission. Sam gets depressed and Lambert takes him off of active duty. Months go by and Fisher is begging Lambert to give him a mission to take his mind of the pain of his daughter dieing. Lambert gives him the only job he can which is as an NOC Non-Official Covert Agent. For this job he will have to get into and work with a terrorist organization called the JBA (John Brown Army). And thats what the stroy behind the new game is. If you click the link at the top of this page below where it says "Thanks Adriaan" it will take you to a page that has a bunch of links that say scan on them. Those show pages and if u read them it will tell you all about the game :).
