One guy intends to find out. A hacker named McZonk has released a few initial screens of his efforts to remove the flash chip, all with the intent of replacing the chip with a freshly flashed one, and maybe exploring the potential for a dual-booting PSP by grafting not one, but two flash chips onto the board. There's no telling how successful this venture will be, given the suggested roadblocks they'll have to deal with also since they're still currently trying to get their hands on a stash of Samsung chips. What this does mean on the horizon however, is that PSP owners with bricked PSPs will be able to restore their dead handhelds back to life. The thought of being able to keep the the firmware current along with the option to run homebrew on the PSP, in the event of a two-flash chip hack, is also something to look forward to as well.
