I've tossed around the idea of getting one on eBay, but I can't bring myself to spend $800 on the 360. That's more than it's worth to me.

Therefore I'll have to live with the fact that I won't be able to pick up one for $399 until February or later. Most people who pre-ordered still don't have their units, so us non-preorder people, and those of us who ain't getting up at 5 AM, have a long wait.

There are probably people at Microsoft pulling their hair out 24/7 due to the productions defects and low yield.

I dont think Microsoft is pulling any hair out at this time. Bottom line is what they are looking at. their past releases of their OS's are proof of that, remember people waiting in line to get windows 98, ME ect..

Just be patient, good things come to those who wait.

If bottom line is what's most important, Microsoft is losing because there are thousands of people who want to buy the product who cannot.

Then again, it is in their best interests to have as much hype as possible around the product, so one has to wonder if this shortage is at least partially artificial. I wouldn't be surprised if this was all a perfectly executed marketing strategy.

My fav is that there we some Mountain Dew winner xbox 360s that sold on ebay, before launch day, for $400. I bet they feel dumb now.

The shortages cause people spend more quickly and hoard or sell at overinflated prices i.e. gas prices. It's all marketing.Microsoft knows what it's doing. And we are following the plan.

Extremely high demand for a product that is in low supply = excellent news for eBay/PayPal. :)

It sure seems like eBay (in the short run) and Microsoft (in the long run) are all profiting from this shortage. Only the individual gamer is screwed - at least for now. I just hope for Microsoft that it doesn't backfire, since the PS3 will be released next Spring, at least in Japan.
