At G.A.M.E. last weekend, the PSP proved more popular that people initially expected, although maybe in ways that Sony or the show's organizers wouldn't have necessarily wished for. Of the 50 or so PSP booths I counted, 13 were missing their PSP units by the end of Saturday. Larceny of this type is already difficult to prevent in large-scale events like this, so in addition to the inconsistent presence of show staff at the PSP booths, some were bound to be snatched. The number of PSPs that were removed from the show floor for repair, instead of being actually stolen, is something only the show operators know the answer to. But if the only thing keeping nimble-fingered gamers from snagging their own $250 piece of equipment is a bit of security wire and double-stick tape, then chances are there's a good number of happy thieves enjoying their mobile gaming in San Francisco today.
