Was Ebert right? Joe Keiser of
Next-Generation believes Roger Ebert has a point based on a misunderstanding of the film critic's
argument and ignorance of the nature of videogames.
From the article: "Ebert brings up a very real concern, which forces us to ask a very necessary, if uncomfortable,
question: are videogames as capable of storytelling as dramatic film and literature? Ebert states that he has yet to
find a game that stands up to the greats in other mediums." The author continues by saying he believes it's in
accepted genre structure, not authorial control that limit games as a medium (i.e more predictable outcomes in
game genres than movie ones).
In the end, the case of arguing if games are better than books and movies is completely subjective. You'll
have as good a chance in proving why the color red is better than blue.
