My Antec Phantom 500 is bigger than the Gamecube!
Doug teh H-Nut @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
It'd go way better with the black Gamecube.
Luckily, I have room for a small country behind my desk, so the 360 power supply shouldn't be too much of an issue.
yay @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
I don't see what the big deal with the huge power supply is. So the 360 has a big power supply, so what. I'm sure the PS3 will have a huge power supply too.
me @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Ha! That thing is so big it's ridiculous. Stupid Micro$oft.
Yukimaruo @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
I look at other game blogs, but I am amazed on how often you guys update! Its blows my mind. I am sitting in my computer class bored and I decided to read your site, and I was reading the Sega post, and then I went back to doing my work, and like 2 mins later I came back and started reading your blog again... to my suprise you had a new post up. I Also read that with great intrest, and then again I went back to my work and 5 mins later I just had to come back and see if you posted again! And WOW! There it was another post, very funny might I add.
Thanks for giving us something to read when we are so bored, and keep up the good work with your prompt updates.
T @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Surprise, it is getting old. But that must not fit your agenda.
C. Grant @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Our agenda is world domination, so this doesn't quite fit it... Oh! You mean the other agenda where we all play prototype PS3s all day (which are awesome btw) and rag on the 360 for being teh suck!!!111one!!11eleven?
The things big. It's funny. We're not making fun of your religion or anything.
Dan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
I agree with number 1. I am loosing respect for joystiq. Its big its not a big deal. Try powering anything with the 360s power with anything smaller......
Heretic @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
i dont have a 360 yet, and thats the first screen to really make me realize how big it really is.
Bobafet @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Joystiq is too literal. They never poke fun at anything... (dot, dot, dot)
Clint @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Oh my GOD! That thing is gi-normous! I had no idea it was that big. No wonder people are reporting their electric bills have doubled since buying Xbox 1.5...I would hate to have that giant thing in the floor. Too bad you can't put their system in an entertainment center. Is this the first console that had instructions not to put it into an entertainment center? That's LAMEO!
Jay @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
funny, my Dual-dual G5 PowerMac's power unit is smaller than the G5's and thats *tiny* bit more powerful than an Xbox 360. only I didn't have to pay extra to get a HDD.
Daniel D @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
"Xbox 360 power supply comparisons never get old" -
YES THEY DO! So its taller but its not that big enough to compare with a gane cube. This IS old!! Id rather have this behind a desk then added on to the 360 itself. You are blowing this way out of proportion and most of your readers arnt finding it amusing either.
dork @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
now i love joystiq <3 more than anything but that gets old. Honestly...how hard is it to shove the power supply behind your entertainment center or in a corner...if they would have put the power supply in the xbox you would have cried because it was a huge box
Bloo @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
And there is the problem with these 360 posts from Joystiq. Normally I laugh unitl guys like Clint come in and say things like "I had no idea it was that big". Of course, he's already said that in 20 other posts so surely he had *some* idea. It has to be at least the 50th post where he (or Jago, or...) says "Xbox 1.5", "same graphics", "no innovation" etc. I mean, seriously, get a life! If you say it once, fine - everyone has opinions, but to go off like a broken record... I guess we'll have to deal unitl the rating system hits.
Mxg @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
That shit IS HUGE !!! My god I knew it was big but that is also the 1st time I have seen it my god !
Killian @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
I agree with C. Grant; I think the only people with agendas here are the ones who see a monstrosity like that and claim that it isn't funny, or at least inconvenient.
Clint @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Even Madonna's Xbox 360 failed! LOL....
http://madonnasthoughts.blogspot.com/2005/12/xbox-360-degrees.html
KK @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Doug teh H-Nut... your a racist.
Sergio @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
It's a funny picture. Get over yourselves.
I'll still get a 360... next year... after more than 3 must-have (for me) titles are out.
GlitchCog @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Someone should Photoshop the Gamecube melting from the heat.
Nossy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Why don't you guys put a PC power supply next to the GameCube and mention how much more power it consumes, especially if you have a 600w PSU. It's ridiculous. I'm betting that Joystiq PROBABLY gets paid by the number of posts/reply so they put up topics to attract fanboys. Woot woot.
RageOverdose @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Their child is the GCN power supply. Aww...
Seriously folks, accept it as a joke, not as an attack on the 360. You know what else gets old? People posting crap like this to make fun of fanboys:
"OMGNINTDO IS DA' ROXORZZ!!!11! $ONY SUXORSZ!11!"
That is old too, yet still people post it all the time and no one says anything...
The1 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
You guys must be really BORED with nothing of substance to report. I am not amused or interested.
tomato @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
i dont get it. people complained when joystiq did the 48hr xbox360 marathon where (imo) they praised it greatly. now people complain when joystiq posts a couple issues about the xbox360? lose-lose for joystiq i guess. if you guys dont like joystiq, guess what, no one is forcing you to come here at all.
back on topic though, that really put the power supply into perspective. i had seen pics, and knew it was big, but never knew exactly how big.
Ninegauger @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Bigger than I imagined...
So basically the 360 would be the size of an Xbox, but they just took the power supply and made it external. Not that there's anything wrong with that as the Gamecube does the same thing. And I'm sure that when the Playstation is released we'll get more of the Foreman grill jokes and a different set of sissies will feel so smart because they know how to identify bias... this isn't the New York Times, which isn't a great example of objectivity anyway, it's a blog
Imp @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Well, at least you were able to take time out of your day to let us know this, The1
MarkTAW @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
> We're not making fun of your religion or anything.
You've never heard of the Official First Church of the XBox 360 Power Supply?
360PSU is the chosen one!
Doug teh H-Nut @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Dude! Did anyone read the Madonna blog? She THREW IT AWAY. She could've given it away, but noooooooooo. Thrown. Trash. Garbage. No use. Blegh. "They were stupid to give me one..." Oh, how do we even know that's Madonna anyway?
Should I have identified it as "jet black" or "obsidian" instead, KK?
Levi @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
I giggled, thus making the picture worth while.
cheesypoofs @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Thats some funny shit. It just goes to show that gamecube really IS better than xbox360!
Oh, wait, you mean it was just a joke? Just a funny picture posted for a bit of humor? How dare you joystiq! Where is your journalistic blogger integrity!?!? I may never spam your forums with my PS3 and ninty hate ever again! If you dont quit with posts like this, I will take my PS3/Nintendo hate elsewhere!
Ha!
Grow up people. Laugh or don't laugh. Not every post is for every gamer. You are not so special. I guarantee you at least 85% of the readers on here (or whatever the gamecubes+PS2 market share is) thought this was damn funny.
As an outspoken nintendo fan, I have to tolerate an endless litany of laughs and boasts at the expense of my precious little gamecube, so you xbox pussies can man up and eat shit once in a while too. If you can't handle it, go somewhere more sensitive to your needs like xboxfanboy.com.

Mazinkaiser @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Clint,
looks like you and i have to go at it again!
Double the electrical bills? Exadurate a little more why don't you! As for the entertainment center comment, again, keep on making things look worse then they are! I'm not stupid enough to enclose any electronic devices or put them on a carpet because even receivers and dvd players will over heat. This is nothing new, in fact don't you remember the PSOne had the same issues to the point where they made a fan mod and it was sold at retail stores like toys r us! You clearly don't like MS/X360, we get that, no one says you have to, but shut up, you're so irritaating because your comments are stupid!
rippity @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Everyone says WOW, its SO big! I bet you xbox boyz wish your girlfriends said as much!
The funny is that the picture is taken from above so it hides how much taller the power supply is than the cube.
I also find it humorous that whoever "posed" the picture placed the tentacle-esque power cable from the power supply menacingly encircling the gamecube as if to get ready to strangle it when you're not looking. Very funny joystiq!
Jeremy Wright @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Haha, good one. Personally the power supply is the only thing that bugs me about the 360. But it bugs me A LOT. So poke fun daily for all I care, I think they're funny ;-)
Calviin @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
For all the people here that are saying it's just as easy to put the power supply behind a desk or other small spaces, you need to remember that there has also been a warning that the power supply can over heat if it's in a small place because it does not get proper ventilation. In fact, there are a number of accounts where this has happened for people and it is even one of the causes of some of the errors people are having
Mazinkaiser @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
cheesypoofs,
the point is, this is like the 10th time we've been though this same issue. I have an X360 and I think the power supply is big and ugly, but its not an issue. I laughed at the 1st few posts, but this is just pathetic to keep harping on it over and over. So as you say:
"Grow up people. Laugh or don't laugh."
Been there done that, I'm waiting for the growing up to happen because clearly its not happening, but its not the people complaining about the lameness of this post that need to grow up!
Do you get it now?
Clint @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Oh my God...Becky look at her PSU. It is so BIG!
Ian @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
So here's a question for 360 owners: I've heard of power supplies getting hot, but what about the xbox itself? Does having this thing outside the machine help with the heat?
JaSoN! @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
i still think its funny. plus people gave a reaction. well done joystiq.
Clint @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Why doesn't M$ do a tie-in with that King Kong movie. They could come up with a face plate for the Power Supply that makes it look like the Empire State Building. That would be cool. They could sell little King Kong's to place on top of it!
Doug teh H-Nut @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Calviin - I didn't say small space. I said small country. Lots of difference. My only problem is it might pull on the console, but I could find a way around that.
Mazinkaiser @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Ian,
I can only speak from my own experiences so to answer your question:
My X360 has warm air coming out of the back of it, but its by no means hot. My X360 is not in an open area but it is not enclosed tightly either. As for the power supply, I have stored it in 2 locations, 1 behind a shelf and 2 in a more open area. Neither caused my power supply to be hot after being played for days without being turned off; I was warm. When I say warm, i'd compare it to blowing hot air from your mouth onto your hand.
Bloo @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
"Why doesn't M$ do a tie-in with that King Kong movie. They could come up with a face plate for the Power Supply that makes it look like the Empire State Building. That would be cool. They could sell little King Kong's to place on top of it!"
I was going to laugh but, then I remembered, I'm not 9 years old. I'll miss your posts once the rating system comes in.
Mark B @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Even funnier than the actual picture is reading the posts from all the Microsoft fanboys, pissed off because their precious Xbox 1.5 is under attack. LMAO!!
Get over it and learn how to laugh. It's good for your health.
=)
Calviin @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Doug teh H-Nut
You did say small country. Which means my comment didn't apply to you.
But thank you for responding, nonetheless. <--Not sarcasm
kevin @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
...how is it you guys wind up SO attached to multi-billion dollar corporations? lol... some of you are acting like joystiq just spit in your face and raped your mother... gods, people... it's a JOKE...
...an old joke? relatively. a funny joke? not much any more. but really, some of you fanboys need to get off your periods or something... probably playing your 360s with one hand...
(ahem)
Mazinkaiser @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Bloo,
I totaly agree with you
skuzmak @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
uhhh, isn't this power supply size thing a bit old already. who cares how big is is? it could be the size and shape of a basketball for all that matters. do all of you people live in a 4X4 closet or something?? plug it in and hide it behind your tv gear. move along....
hydrogen_wv @ Dec 18th 2005 10:01PM
Who needs a Louisville Slugger when you have this? :)
This amuses me though. As a person who occasionally packs his Gamecube around, and will pack the Revolution around when I get one, this is hilarious.
I have a Kensington bookbag that I can carry 2 (700+ pg) textbooks, An enormous laptop (hp pav zd7010... 9 lbs of lappie), my Gamecube, wires, 3 controllers, and about 10 games in cases. With the Xbox 360, I think I could fit the console, the wires, the power supply, 2 controllers and 1 game maybe.
I know it's not a portable gaming system, but with the GC and Rev so small, they are essentially portable.
Oh, and I second the person that basically said 'If you don't like it, leave.' There are the occasional posts that poke fun at the Revolution and I don't dislike Joystiq for it, they just tell it how they see it, and the way they see it, this power supply is freakin' massive.
Oh... on a different note... Kensington sells power adapters that are a fraction of the size for PCs, I don't see why it wouldn't work for the 360 as well. Well, Kensington only has up to 120W... But I'm sure someone out there could make a slimline 160W adapter.
My Laptop Adapter stock is about 80% as big as the Xbox 360 one, and the Kensington Adapter i replaced it with is only about 5"x4"x1".
