Xbox 360 power supply comparisons never get old

uhhh, isn't this power supply size thing a bit old already. who cares how big is is? it could be the size and shape of a basketball for all that matters. do all of you people live in a 4X4 closet or something?? plug it in and hide it behind your tv gear. move along....

A lot of the Japanese customers MS hopes will buy an Xbox 360 pretty much do.

Why do people call the XBox 360 "XBox 1.5"? Because it hasn't brought anything new to gaming other than hi-res graphics. This is looking to be the first generation shift where you're less likely to see something that wouldn't be possible on the earlier consoles, only with non-hi-res graphics. There are less gameplay concepts that weren't possible because of a lack of juice in the previous generation. This is why I'm happy about the Revolution: With luck, it'll inspire some innovation into "mainstream" PS3 and 360 games as well.

And X-box fanboys? Don't worry. The "LOL XBOX IS HUGE" jokes died out after a while, didn't they?

MrP, you hit the nail on the head. The 360 is simply not a very exciting system. Better graphics but not much else to offer.

I believe that's why the Nintendo DS is doing so well. People are sick of the same old shit and they want more than just prettier graphics.

I love the comments on the linked site from the people who "had one" but already got rid of their 360's because it was so huge.

I swear, the 360 launch has been the most controversial one I can recall. As a result I think people are just starting to get a little sensitive about things. BTW, at launch, what did the last generation offer gaming-wise that the 32/64 bit generation didn't, other than prettier graphics? I thought so...

I got a chuckle out of it, so I'd say it was worth the post. Then seeing all of the anger it provoked has given me a few more. Honestly these people would get mad at anything. All you'd have to do is point & laugh and say "look at those people standing in line to buy a 360". Come on, you got one so don't worry about what others think.

The games industry has reached such a wretched state that people avoid consoles for mundane things such as graphics or console size. As long as it's not a freakin refrigerator, you're good.

And yes, the joke does get old. It was barely funny the first time.

HHAHAH it totally doesn't get old. It's funny because there are ALWAYS ways to make things smaller, more efficient and quietter. And before you X-Fanboys say anything, NO it doesnt have to be that big. I know alienware laptops that pull that kind of power with a desktop proc in them...and they still don't require a giant assed power supply...I think it's great that everyone wants to cram the thing in the corner and shit...ya know...so it can set your house on fire and cause a lot of the problems first gen xboxes had...

Look at the 64, you could by the add on power supply that housed it in the actual system instead of having a brick at the end of your power plug. They could have easily done something like that and just given the system a water cooler.

With greater technogoly, the 360 could be more efficient and wouldnt need the large power supply. Why do you think most consoles to date have come out with a less expensive smaller version of the same console after a couple of years.

I was suprised at the size of my 360's power unit until I saw it was 16+ amps. Not surprising, and you definitely wouldn't want that inside the console.

I'm waiting for Sony to claim the PS3 will run on .25 amps and only consume .05 watts of power per day. Pfffff. Or they'll put a cell processor in the PSU which will allow it to somehow drive your car. How about they shut up and just put a decent laser in the Playstation?

If you read the comments from different articles regarding those that think the Xbox 360 is '1.5', its usuallly the usual suspects that keep repeating themselves. They're usually fanboys of other consoles or have beef with Microsoft in general and I highly doubt an avid gamer. Their comments aren't worth shit so just ignore them. Only extreme Xbox fanboy will take offense (or first time reader).

However, those that actually own an Xbox 360 and have beef, or constructive criticism with it, I'd rather hear what they have to say since they actually own one and not full of horseshit rhetoric.

I've own every console, including the Xbox 360 and I believe its a very good console. Absolutely incredible if you have an HDTV entertainment system. It has brought a lot of entertainment value, so I believe it has done its job -- and this is what matters most.

Absolutely the Xbox 360's external power supply is huge. However, in my opinion it doesn't really matter. I place the cables behind my entertainment center like I hide my PS2, Gamecube's and other electronic gadgets power adapters.

And to answer the article, which no one has -- yes the cube and rectangular brick do look lovely together.

there's really nothing wrong with the laser. it's a more of a dust problem.. or should i say the morons who don't keep their PS2s clean.

if you are experiencing disc read errors.. 99% of the time, if you take the PS2 apart and clean the inside and the laser with a compressed air (thus removing present dust and the threat of encroaching dust) the errors will stop.

the other 1% of the time it's probably a scratched/faulty laser. it's electronics. it happens. get a grip and take care of your electronics and they will be good to you in return.

I hear what you're saying, but you don't hear me or anyone else. No i'm not a fanboy, my critcism is with Joystiq not with the bashing of the "brick". The brink has been done to death and while i guess a few people still find it amusing, the majority of people are getting tired of it and we want Joystiq to know that we don't appreciate the regurge on a regular basis. This isn't a defend MS/X360, its a lets move on to something new. We could have a million posts on X360 PSU VS xx. At what point is it shameful to post these articles? When does the site lose people's respect? So you say then don't come here; well you know what, I'd bet they will lose people if they keep this up; I know i'm not here nearly as much as i used to be because i don't miss much if i skip a few days and thats sad. If you want to support Joystiqs blaitant attempts to generage site traffic for the same thing over and over agin, then thats your choice! My choice is this:
I like the site overall, but lately i'm wasting time readiing the same stories and the same arguments in the comments. If by expressing my opinion which is obvious that many others agree with, changes the site to suit my taste more, then I've done a good thing for me. If it continues to go ways where i feel that joystiq is a waste of my time, then I WILL LEAVE. You can't handle what i'm saying, where as I can handle what you're saying. I realize humor is a part of this site's content, but for me, repetition causes the humor to be lost. So clearly, i'm not the one thats being a bitch.
As for your Revolution complaints, you're right. You will see lots of people trashing the new control as a gimmick. I don't think thats right either, but that doesn't mean you have to pick on the other 1 or 2 guys just because people trash your fave system. And guess what, PS3 will get trashed too because Sony has had a big mouth in the past and are doing it again! Even if PS3 is noticably more powerful than X360, it will never live up to the hype and trash talk Sony's been dishing out! Does that make me a fanboy some how? Um no, X360, Revo and PS3 will al be good and bad for certain things, you pick which things matter to you the most and you buy it; its pretty simple no? Just because I say something to defend a stupid negative comment doesn't mean I'm a fanboy and if i say something i like or don't like doesn't make me a fanboy so don't be too quick to label people.

For some reason I never came across a picture of the 360 power supply. I like my current Xbox and plan to buy a 360 when it comes out. It doesn't bother me how big a game machine is. No one complains how huge thier computer is but they all tout how much better the graphics are than such and such console.

But, Jostick posted a joke about it and asked a simple question. Does it get old making 360 power supply comparisons? Many people very simply said "Yes, it does get old". Then a million Nintendo and Playstation fanboys jumped all over them for a simple opinion. Telling them to suck it up. Why don't you guys suck it up and accept their opinion? Question was asked and answered. Its just an opinion. It cant hurt you.

I think you missed my point. I was trying to tell the Nintendo and Playstation fanboys to accept the fact that many people are sick of the comparisons. Joystick asked whether the comparisons are getting old. When some said yes, others jumped all over them saying they needed to suck it up. Why cant some accept others answers without jumping all over them?

HAHAHA! I had no idea it was that big. Wow I am sure that powersupply will use more electricity then the price of the console itself.

The xbox 360 consumes $30 of electricity per year. I read that somewhere. So it's not that big a deal.
I don't care what people say about the xbox 360. I like it and I know why. Don't want it? fine. Stop telling everyone and just don't buy it. There's plenty of xbox fans to go around.
And wikipedia says that so far no european xboxes have significantly overheated.

Mine isn't particularly well ventilated and in about two weeks has never overheated.

You really expected the next gen to be SMALLER?

And to the poster some way back, there isn't always a way to make things smaller. according to moore's law processors can only shrink in size for another two decades, then the processors will become too small to shrink any further.
