In what would a first in the mega-popular horror franchise, Capcom is hoping to release Resident Evil 5 on
both technical-saavy next-generation consoles simultaneously. According to the Capcom R&D chief Keiji Inafune, "we
want to grow the Resident Evil series into a multi-platform franchise."
The simultaneous launch will depend, Infafune notes, on if the PlayStation 3 launches in time for the company's
release of the game. The Resident Evil series has traditionally been developed on only one console at a time,
with remakes for each title (except Resident Evil 0) released on various other platforms months (or even
years, in the case of the GameCube REmake) later. Resident Evil 5 will be the franchise's first outing on
Microsoft hardware.
