Market research firm, NPD Group, the top game-statistics firm
in the industry issued its November report stating Microsoft sold 320,000 systems in the month of November.
That's roughly 80,000 shy of the company's 400,000 expected units.
Microsoft did achieve higher than expected software sales for the console, however, totaling $75 million. The
company says this was much higher than expected. The NPD Group also released
US hardware sales for the month of November (in
total units sold):
-
GBA: 892,438
-
PS2: 546,096
-
NDS: 381,619
-
PSP: 359,772
-
Xbox 360: 332,121
-
NGC: 278,284
-
Xbox: 191,320
It is interesting that the GBA sold nearly double that of the PS2, with the DS slightly outselling the PSP. Remember, the Xbox 360 was released in late November so total sales of 332,000 are not reflective of entire month sales as are the other systems. The new console also suffered from retail shortages. It will be exciting to see how December sales end up.
[UPDATE: As it turns out, NPD has just recalled last month's sales data, for the reason that the numbers contained within were "overstated." We should be seeing updated sales data by tomorrow, so we'll keep you posted.]
