MTV Films has just acquired the rights to make a movie based on Atari's
upcoming, and already
controversial, game Marc Ecko's Getting Up:
Contents Under Pressure. We won't get into the reasons why fashion designer Marc Ecko has a videogame with his
name on it in the first place, why anyone would make a movie based on a game that hasn't even come out yet, and why
anyone would want to see said movie. Branding has become such a singular and overwhelming force in videogames and
movies that it alone can get both made (even though some
don't make any money). Expect plenty of finger pointing
and scapegoating once this movie comes out. Expect people to say the game's (potentially) piss-poor story is
responsible for the movie's equivalent lack of narrative. But we'll know better.

Part of the advertising campaign for this stupid game are spraypainted "X"s all over an urban area. Now, small businesses and the like are on the hook for cleaning this grafitti off thier buildings. Grafitti can be art but this corporate tagging is vandalism. Boycott the Ecko brand, clothing, games and movies.

The games rubbish anyway so I shouldn't worry to much.
And to be honest you could get alot more controversial than 'spraypaint something for no reason what-so-ever, jump a few platforms to equally bad textured area of level, spray something else with even less point than before, kill techno-oppressive soldier, kill own self due to bad game architecture'.

Are you saying this video game influences gamers to go outside and vandalize their neighborhood, cause that is total nonsense. This goes with the same premise that fools like you that say video games promote and causes people to do violent acts against one another. This game takes a page straight from the Dreamcast game Jet Grind Radio. Where was the controversy when that game was out?

did u even read True North's comment? i hope you did seen as you even commented on it.
"Part of the advertising campaign", therefore Atari [or at least their advertising firm] are paying people to do the spray painting, not people who are influenced by a game.
sony did it recently for the PSP as well, except the taggers got their revenge and started to deface the graffiti.
quite a few advertisers use this type of system nowadays perhaps influenced by stencil artists work who take jibes at corporate brands.

That's kind of funny considering that Mark Ecko has said that in the game you tag over the logos of corporations as a sign of protest...which in actuality he is just being a total hypocrit.
On a side note...this game is basically a total rip off of SEGA's Jet Set Radio games. A former teacher of mine who works at the Collective (the developers) read us the synopsis of this game. When I said that it was just a rip off of SEGA's game, he said "Yea, pretty much."

If ya'll did ya research you'd find that the game has a lot of relvenet social messages and a lot of good hip-hop references. It's probably the best game that I've played. Didn't ya'll go to E3 and play it and talk to Marc Ecko? The history on it is that him having grown up with a lot of graph artist wanted to do a game where you really get to feel a part of that artistic culture. Then forward to 2003 and he has the money and the clot to approach Atari and they green light the concept. The only reason it's not about yet is because Atari change the release date because of the Xbox 360 launch. So they pushed it back to 2006. But it's the direction that the industry needs to go. It's fun, it's interesting, and has a good message. insted of all the blacks and latins shooting each other this is a one of the few games with substance.

Sorry but I've read interviews and saw video interviews and Mark Ecko is an arrogant ass. He is acting like the base idea of this game was 100% his (when it isn't) and makes it seem like he is going to change the industry with this game (which it isn't.)
Basically he is living in a bubble and won't do anything new b/c people are getting tired of the whole urban themed games.

This games looks stupid and is probably stupid, Jet set radio was actually pretty good and shouldn't even be compared as the same game. I hope Ecko goes out of business after this game since their cloth sucks too.

"graph artist".. is that code for a vandal? Because last time I checked, spraypainting someone else's property is vandalism.
