Balboa on the TeamXbox forums received his repaired 360 back from Microsoft yesterday along with a disc conspicuously marked Confidential. It's marked as a Microsoft Xbox 360 XStress Retail Media version .01, dated September 2005 with another bit noting Media Set: X11-61640.
He didn't want to load the disc into his drive, afraid it might format or otherwise change his now functioning Xbox. Over 150 posts later and there is still no word. Was it full of trade secrets, movie trailers, or something else? It seems clear that it was a test disc, designed to "stress" the unit into overheating. If they correctly solved the problem, the unit should not have overheated and then it gets sent back home to its waiting family. I'm sure some tech, overworked fixing plenty of 360s, probably just forgot to pop the disc out.
In related news Balboa said they sent back a hard drive with the unit, although he already had one. A thank you gift from Redmond?
