Poor little PSP. The mainstream press sure does like to use you as the official video game punching bag. Last week you were sucker punched not just once, but twice! And now, this.
TheStreet.com employ's some sensationalist tactics (a practice that Fanboy PSP shuns!) in a recent story, claiming that the Xbox 360 has all but stolen the PSP's thunder and short-term prospects.
"Sony's PlayStation Portable, which looked destined for greatness when it arrived nine months ago, finds itself lost in the hype surrounding Microsoft's Xbox 360. Sales of the PSP are disappointing thus far, particularly this holiday season. The truth is we would have expected it to have more momentum than it has."
We believe the mainstream press is looking for an excuse for Sony's unmet expectations, if indeed there really are any. This isn't exactly the Gizmondo or that dreadful Nokia "handheld that must not be named."
Most, if not all, of the PSP's shortcomings lie solely with Sony. Not because Nintendo or Microsoft put the hurt on them. Sony needs to tone down its "the PSP is all things to all people" mantra and concentrate on making great games. Then when can start playing the blame game.
