The former president of Warner Home Video has said Sony's corporate strategies mirror those of Japan's feudal Samurai saying, "If you ever read The Art of War, you will see all of Sony's moves." Part of Sony's strategy for next-gen dominance involves controlling the next-gen video standard, hence their inclusion of Blu-ray in the PS3. Warner's president feels that the movie studios have been "duped" into the PlayStation versus Xbox war.
Echoing Microsoft's sentiment about the future of video and mandatory managed copy he says, "...everything is digital, the Internet is going to deliver video, you are going to want to pass information from one device to another." We thought this point had already been settled.
It's hard to trust the movie studios, who are always eager to nickel and dime; but then again, Sony is known for forcing some questionable "standards" on us: UMDs, Minidiscs, Betamax, Memory Stick. The battle continues.
[UPDATE: The original story on GamesIndustry.biz has been corrected to reflect that Mr. Lieberfarb is in fact not the president of Warner Home Video anymore. Thanks, Joel][Thanks, Art Guy and The1]
