Sony: Spring PS3 launch imminent

If it's simultaneous Microsoft, then howcome Australians are having to wait until March 2006 for the console launch?

DVD was a huge improvement over VHS, and DVDs were available before the PS2 arrived. The PS2 was a cheap DVD player at the time it was released that also played games. Blu-Ray is an improvement over DVD, but a huge one? not everyone has HDTVs, so what's the point? There are no HD movies yet in HD DVD or Blu-Ray nor can you simply go to the store and buy a HD DVD or Blu-Ray player just yet.

Sony faces a dilemma. Release too soon, and they risk not having enough games at launch. The technology will be more expensive, which means their loses will be greater. They've yet to release a Blu-Ray movie. And there's no competition in the Blu-Ray player market, because it doesn't exist yet. What will Blu-Ray players cost? If they end up cheaper than the PS3, that could hurt potential PS3 sales.

See this is where my problem lies with people.

by our good friend snake sumthin. this is the i problem that i have with xbox lovers. they try to shove things down your throat becasue they know that their point is useless, some not all. but out of all honesty, where did i say that i dont want you to have a xbox? where did i say it sucked, i put no words in no one's mouth, i attacked no one, and look. five or six guys come at me becasue i have a strong point. that's what makes it so hard to choose what side to be on, cuz you got people like snake who can't even express themselves without using useless forms of speech, a la, "screw you". and then people want to call me a fanboy because i want a fuckin choice, them fine, i'd would rather have MS pioneering this so called "next gen" than having Sony ruling it by itself, becasue i know that Sony is corporation, and it doesnt care about me. but as of now, XBOX 360 is the only thing out, and the origoal XBOX is better in almost every aspect minus the controller. when PS3, XBOX 360 and the Nintendo Rev is out, then i'll make my choice, no one's gonna make it for me!

Come back, Dralt. Don't you want to make your asinine point that bluray is going to be just like dvd. No? I wonder if that is because it makes no sense?!! There was a whole host of reasons that dvd won out over vhs, including durability of the media compared to the predecessor (bluray certainly doesn't have that), image quality (bluray certainly doesn't make the same kind of jump over dvd that dvd made over vhs), compactness (bluray is the same size (if not bigger in that the first gen will likely still require cartridges for use)). It is going to take a long time for bluray to make any kind of dent over dvd, and the ps3 is here way to early to make any kind of dent in the marketplace.

jon, you are funny, when you act like us xbox fanboys don't have as much of a point as you (our point is "useless"). We know that way the truth goes. Xbox will be victorious this generation (except in Japan), with Revolution taking second place due to its innovative controller and Nintendo's prowess, and the ps3 taking the distant third place. Mark my words, This will be the present in two years.

Yes, Sony keeps shoving media formats down our throats. But picture this, A world without CDs, Sony created one of the most revolutionary products ever.

I belive that the Blu-ray is a very good product, and it has some potentional. Sony just needs to market it correctly. Now, after watching some HD Movies on my Digital Cable, I have to say, I WANT MORE! Remember the days of DVD Box Collections? Well on one Blu-ray you can get the whole damn set. But will companies just re-release everything they have to Blu-ray, or will they just keep it at DVD.

Let me start of by saying that i own an XBOX and both Playstations. So i don't consider myself a fanboy of either one. One thing you guys keep knocking the PS3 about is the betamax failing. But if you do some research on the subject you would find out that betamax was actually better than VHS was. It was smaller, more durable, had better audio and video, and it had a longer life span. But the reason it did so poorly is that all the big companies (Fox, Disney, and Warner) backed VHS (kind of like they are now with the PS3). Now before you start calling me a PS3 fanboy bieleve me I wanted a XBOX 360 but if you look at the technology it has it is just slighty better than the XBOX is. Another thing is that is was rushed out to try to take some of Sony's share of the market, whcih as I am sure you all know has caused alot of problems with it. But I think Sony was smart to let the 360 come out and more less screw up and take the time to make a better system. Anyway don't be suprised if the PS3 is far better than the 360 is. Any comments are wellcome

If the ps3 is released in the fall of 2007 in the U.S. Xbox 360 will be number one, especially if they can release Halo 3 before the ps3 comes out.
