Weekly sales figures in Japan for Nov. 28 to Dec. 4

Without much ado, here are the official hardware and software sales figures for Japan during the week of November 28 to December 4, as compiled by entertainment industry research firm Media Create. DS fans, try not to look so smug:

In the race for portable supremacy, the Nintendo DS holds the lead by a large margin having sold nearly twice as many units as the PSP. However, the recent release of Monster Hunter Portable (and its subsequent appearance on the chart in the third-highest spot) no doubt accounts for the strong movement of the PSP, even in light of the appearance of Animal Crossing: Wild World and Slime Morimori Dragon Quest 2: Daisensha to Shippo Dan for the DS. We're still hoping for a recoup from the PSP camp, considering the number of quality titles that will be seeing daylight in 2006.

On the bright side, the PSP finally edges out the PS2 in yearly sales figures. We love good news.
