More bad news for Microsoft? The highly anticipated backwards compatability update had been pulled. Apparently, while adding support for many of the popular Tom Clancy series of games, it disabled the 16x9 support for Microsoft's bread and butter: Halo 2. The update was promptly updated. But the updated patch appears to create more problems than it solved? Comments at Major Nelson's blog appear to confirm that there is a serious install bug making the console unable to play any original Xbox games. With an original Xbox title in the drive, the system appears to be completely dead, remove it and voila! Back in business. A warning to all those eager to play emulated games: sit this round out and see what happens.
UPDATE: According to Microsoft PR, “This error was fixed on Friday afternoon and there are no longer any more problems.”
