British holiday camp chain
Butlins is associated with many things—dreary summers by the
seaside, overpriced but under-cooked food, and arguing with the entire family for days on end. Not to mention
Hi-de-Hi. However, Butlins have made an effort to revamp their image recently, offering adults-only weekends
and improving their sites.
Butlins also seem to be a fan of games, as they are holding the first Butlins Computer Gaming Championships
in January at Butlins Bognor Regis, in West Sussex. With the technical side handled by LAN veterans
Multiplay, this is the largest LAN to be held in the UK—there are 1,250 places
available. There's also some big money to be won: the Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament has a total of £10,000
available, with other tournies offering similarly high prizes.
LAN events are a lot of fun for everyone from the hardcore to the casual—spending four days doing nothing but game is
motivation enough for many to attend, and you can learn tips from the best, experience lag-free gaming and show off
your tricked-out PC. As if winning all that money wasn't enough.
