I really don't know what to think here. I'm faced with the plain fact that both Joystiq and J Allard absolutely BLOW at this game. I had NO trouble at ALL with that damned water boss. IT JUST ISN'T THAT HARD.

I think J has it right on the money this time, Yes, the Water Boss does in fact, suck. I'd say it took me about a dozen times to beat that stupid boss.

A DOZEN times!? GOOD GOD! I nailed it on my second try with EASE! And just in case someone doubts I've beaten this game:

I agree with Dave on this one. It wasn't hard. I liked the water boss. They were very creative with this one.

Creative my ass. =) Deep Blue is a horribly designed and deeply flawed character.

Same here, beat it on the second try. While I can't say it was my most enjoyable Kameo moment, it really wasn't THAT bad.

Hmmm I didn't find it that difficult either. Beat it on my second try after dying with 1 hit left on the boss on my first attempt. Though I'll agree that Deep Blue is pretty hard to control, took me awhile to get used to it.

Deep Blue's a great character! Have you gotten the oil slick with him? Throw that over a group of guys and set it on fire! What's so flawed about him that isn't flawed with any other character?

Hhaaha bunch of contrarians. If Joystiq had posted that the fight was well-designed and that Deep Blue rocked, you'd have a dozen people saying, "lolz that fight sucked and deep blue sucks 2!"

I beat the water boss on the second attempt. This was a very fun boss battle. In a game that based around unique control schemes how can you possibly complain about the controls being difficult? Mastering the unique controls of each character is what this game is all about. That boss battle is easy, learn how to pilot big blue. Grow a pair joystiq!

I agree that this particular boss showed many of the game's flaws. Manuvering Deep Blue was a pain in the @$$. The fact that I defeated this boss on my second try despite control and camera problems shows the other game flaw, it was too easy. Defeating the boss took forever because of the control, but it was so easy to avoid damage and recharge your energy that you could have taken as long as you like to wear him down.

*Spoiler Alert*
The reason I didn't defeat this guy my first try was because I kept getting electrocuted. It wasn't until I realized that all I had to do was use Kameo's hover technique and I wouldn't be standing in puddles of water to get electrocuted. After I figured that out, I had no trouble avoiding damage.

Dude. You're just not reading between the lines. J's playing with you all. He's saying that "the water boss SOAKED" as in, it was soaking in the water all day long. That must be it.

Pff... I've owned up on worse bosses than that. I don't think it was all that bad. Once you get the hang of controlling Deep Blue underwater than the boss isn't that hard. I'm glad they chose the underwater controls to be like that, otherwise most of the character would act the same despite different abilities.

Too bad there isn't enough room (lousy 21 char limit) to change my quote to "Water Boss wasn't hard. I must be better the J.A. :)".

What the hell was everyones problem with that boss? He was relatively easy. I found him easier then the Tree guy. But yeah, I also loved controlling the water spirit thingy... so maybe you guys just suck?

I didn't have an issue with it. Once your in the water you don't actually have to move, just stay in one place aim and shoot. Beat him on the second try, and found it enjoyable.

*shrug*

I'm glad Joystiq feels the need to shout neener neener at their readers though.

Call me crazy but I dreaded playing the boss thinking it would take forever to beat (after reading the article), but I beat it on the first try. Hover, roll, shoot. 10 minutes even for a noob like me :-)

What's with the asterisks? You can't say "suck" on Xbox Live? That guy's hard core, I tell ya.

Hopefully I can get an Xbox soon so I can judge this s**ky water boss for myself.

#1 you are 100% correct, I don't understand what is so damn hard about the boss... You whirl the bombs at the boss, then go in the water and shoot out two of his tenticles per swim. Repeat once, and the boss is dead... Sure Deep Blue isn't as easy to aim as Master Chief, but come on, it's a terribly easy boss.

bapenguin: Blew goats! The perfect way to describe it! It sucked, really hard. I've heard more people mention that fight explicitly than any game in recent memory. X-Play's review called it out, Major Nelson called it out on his podcast, J Allard called it out loud in his gamertag, we put a whole post up... maybe all those people who beat him easily just didn't realize how flawed the design was, regardless of its difficulty. It seems like plenty of perfectly respectable gamers (some of whom do so for a living) all agree it soaked, errr, sucked.

Why does James Allard not like being called by his real name? To "cool" for the name James?

Alright, I'll do you folks one better... Not only did I have no trouble with the water boss... but neither did my 11 year old nephew--on his first time playing Kameo.

The boss designs in Kameo remind me A LOT of the bosses in PhantasyStar Online btw.
