It took a while to arrive, but Microsoft's finally jumped with both feet into the online music biz with Urge, a music service it's teaming up with MTV to do. The new site will offer around 2 million songs for download, and will also feature music videos like current industry leader, iTunes (although these videos will be available via streaming only). Pricing hasn't been set yet, although it's already been revealed that a subscription-based model will be used.Seeing how Microsoft plans on integrating the service fully with Windows Media Player, there's always a chance that PSP owners will finally have a compatible music download service in the form of Urge, given the PSP's recent ability to play WMA files. There's no telling if or when Sony will allow for WMA DRM (Digital Rights Management) on the handheld, however, and until then we'll still be stuck on the long route with getting music on our devices.
How's about it, Sony? Your rootkit scheme failed miserably, so how's about letting us enjoy rights-managed music someplace else?
