Geometry Wars video: 2.1 million score by former world champion, "Striker"
In the clip that you're about to see, Striker, the former worldwide champion of phenomenal game Geometry Wars, scores over 2.1 million points. (Striker's high score is just shy of 3 million, but the worldwide leader, TBone2501 has 3.4 million). If you're a Geometry Wars addict, you'll learn a lot from watching this vid, but will you learn enough to unseat the champ?
Got a high-score video? Let us know. If it's impressive, we can host it.

Is there ANY way to play this game on a PC as opposed to a 360? I mean, sure the 360 is pretty damn slick and all but I'm not gaming enough to merit the purchase of one...and hell I'm not a big FPS fan either. So, anyway of playing this game off of a 360?
Conrad Quilty-Harper @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
All I can say is holy crap.
lightdarkness @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Can someone upload this to Google Video? I can't download videos from school.
pennywise969 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Golly. I love this game, but I seem to have peaked around 300k points.
Fan @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
LETS HEAR IT FOR THE BEST GAME ON THE 360 LOL
vc @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Pennywise: watch his moves -- there are a few in there that are well worth duplicating. I like the one where he sweeps down to the left-hand-corner black hole and hits it a couple times to get it started, then nails everything that was chasing him before it gets sucked in to the hole. He does a variation of that move over and over. Having tried it, I can say that it's very effective.
Rubberneck @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
That is unbelievable...My high is only 287k...
pennywise969 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Yeah, I am going to try to perfect that move when I get home from watching King Kong tonight. I hadnt thought of using the black holes like that.
C. Grant @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
This video is face melting! Striker deserves our adulation... unless he isn't human. Then he doesn't. Robot perhaps?
Mike @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
even after watching this video, I still cant see how some1 would play this over a real game like pd0 or COD2.
And I would still not purchase it. From the looks of it, the game is identical to the demo version except for 1 red enemy that flys fast and that you can post your score online. This just seems like one of those silly arcade games you see on the pc that you get bored of after 2 or 3 times playing it.
Pixelantes Anonymous @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
I almost had a heart attack watching that video. If this game is this exciting just to watch, I can't wait until I get to actually play it.
Ross Miller @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
I have a hard time convincing myself to buy a 360 for an Xbox Live game, but damn if this doesn't bring me closer to my wallet.
Ptaaty @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
to #9....
Dude it is $5. It's fun for me right at the point the demo ends. The whole point is to stay alive and go for a high score after wave after wave of increasing enemies...
pennywise969 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
If you dont want to play the game, then dont. I dont know why you feel the need to tell us about it. Do you think we are all just waiting around to hear about whether or not Mike wants to play this game?
Samuel Febres @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
I haven't played this game yet, but I am a bit interested. I think I'll have to check out the demo.
Now, I think an under appreciated xbox Live arcade game is Zuma. This game is just addicting to play. I think my fiance, who hates video games has logged more hours on my 360 than I have playing this game alone. Also, it's a great game to play when you've got folks over taking turns to see who can do the best.
gt = portorikan.
Drew @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
my friend and i go back and forth at beating each others high scores at this game. it started back at 200k and then 300...400...500...now i think he is permanently in the lead at 1.18m and i can't seem to get that high. We are both AMAZED at this video. i think he'll end up breaking 2mil
Embassy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
mike...your missing the BIG reason why people actually buy it...the demo only last for 4 minutes...and trust me..its pretty addicting...
pennywise969 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
#14. My wife likes zuma, but she said that the controller interface doesnt work nearly as well for that game as a mouse does. If your wife is into zuma, you might want to try downloading a pc version so that you can get her off of the 360.
jACK @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Nah, let her keep playing on the 360. It keeps it more "us" instead of having her hide in another room while you play, justifies the 360, and encourages playing together.
PS - The mouse is only better if you've logged more hours using it (much like FPS mousing versus console controllers). I played Zuma once or twice on the PC but loooooooove it on the 360.
Art Guy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Wow. I can't even make it all the way through the demo, there is just so much happening on the screen at the same time I lose sight of the guy and blow up. Cool game, I just suck at it.
Bruce Wayne III @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
I haven't got a Xbox 360, so I started playing "mono". It's not exactly the same, the controls are a bit different, but it's still fun. You can find it at http://www.binaryzoo.com
bapenguin @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Alright time to record myself. I can consistantly hit almost a million now. I'll be sure to check this out when I get home. Good post VC! I hope this doesn't mean Joystiq is gonna catch me on the leader boards. :)
jl @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
I still haven't gotten past my 38k best (yeah you read that right). This video is inspiring.
Matt @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Microsoft should release a commercial of a 30s clip after 100k; and just put a subtitle of "Actual Gameplay Footage" -- just to shove it in the face of all the pre-rendered video games out there that can't live up to the gameplay that GeoWars has.
KilgoreTrout XL @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Dude, that looks totally easy...
0_0
Ha. Can't wait to check that game out.
GlitchCog @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
What a fun looking game. It looks like Ikaruga plus a light show. They should put this out for the PC or for a system I would actually consider owning. I hate FPS and sports games.
thomas_h @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
i have a 360 and kameo, pgr3 and halo2, i think i've played the live arcade games as much as the "real" games.. geometry wars re just might be the most addicting game i've ever tried. and lol my highscore is 29k.
hexic hd, geometry wars re, zuma those are the best XLA games in my opinion. they rawk :D
Michael @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
And I thought my high score of 80k was good. lol.
One of the few reasons to own a 360. I actually bought this game twice. once on arcade and another via pgr3.
This whole xbox arcade harkens back to the days I'd hang out at the local bowling alley arcade in so cal and watch people like this flip games. Love it.
Intense.
JCRooks @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
I agree, this game is mega-addicting. My high score is around 440k ... still working on breaking the 500k barrier. My goal is to just remain in the top 1,000 scores as long as I can. :)
Ravuya @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
He makes the game look better than actually playing it.
And playing it is awesome.
Logan @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
My love for this game increases by the moment. I've got Kameo, Condemned and PGR 3, and only PGR 3 gets close to this kind of fun gameplay for me.
I'm only at a 300K highscore, but it's fun as hell to keep trying for better.
LiquidMercury @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
I busted into the top 20 last week with a score of 1.8 million and posted some tips (including the grav well drive by thing that the video guy does) on the Xbox forums. Check out http://forums.xbox.com/871170/ShowPost.aspx
Deanis73 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Can we all just accept that live arcade is the REAL reason for buying a 360? I have COD2, it's pretty good: it's beautiful, and it's fun for a while. Condemned: Criminal Origins is scary as anything I've ever played, they got the ambiance just right. Kameo, well, I got a defective Kameo, I'm exchanging it tomorrow. But even with some very high quality high-budget games, I still prefer the games I've purchased on Live Arcade. Not necessarily as realistic, but when push comes to shove, much more fun and much more playable. And as more independent developers get on board, there'll be even more great games like this.
To those who say they don't want the 360 because they don't like FPS or sports games, Live Arcade is totally worth the purchase(now if I could only get my fiancee to let me play!).

Geez....i think my eyes would have gone into total meltdown around 1 million. I have an xbox 360, and I love to play the demo and all but holy crap....i think my brain would suffer heavy collateral damage after layin this one...good job.
UT odaVoO @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Xbox Live Arcade really seals the deal with the 360, it's such a great piece of work. Exactly what the guy above said, xblive arcade games are stealing almost all of my 360 time. That's not to say the actual 360 games are bad, they're really good, PGR3 and COD2 are awesome.
But between Wik, Zuma, and Geometry Wars...man, so much fun.
And the potential for more great games to come out from indie delvelopers just puts a grin on my face.
seraphsoul @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Indie Developers on XBL is something that I am really looking forward to. I hope that they can get a port of N to the 360, that would be too awesome.
Melchezidek @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
this file is only 117 kb and is one second long. Is the file no longer available? why can't I download it?
Ross Miller @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
If Ikaruga and Rez went bowling one night, came back and had a few drinks, some wild drunk sex, and woke up in the morning without remembering anything, only to smoke crack for the first 4 months of pregnancy and decide not to get an abortion...
...that is the best way to describe Geometry Wars. Tell your friends and loved ones!
Aza @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
When watching this video it seems like a small movement 'up' and you see the boundary, and a small movement 'down' and you see the other boundary. For me i seem to need to travel further to see the boundary edges....
Why is this? Any ideas?
