Robin Williams is a sniper… in Battlefield 2
A posting at Kev and Charlotte's blog talks about a chance meeting
with the actor Robin Williams.
Anyone would have thought it would be strange enough to go visit the flat you're renting and find an entire film crew,
extras and a famous actor on the street corner. But to end up talking to the lead actor about videogames?! Now
that's weird.
Apparently Robin was in town filming a movie called "Man of the Year". After he was done filming he started signing autographs and ended up talking to Kev. It seems that Kev had done his homework, as he already knew they had something in common: online videogames. So naturally he asked him what game he's been playing lately. Apparently, he's been gaming a lot online with Battlefield 2 and his favorite class is the sniper. So next time you're screaming at "that friggin' camper!", feel consoled; it may be a celebrity shooting at you.
[Thanks, josh]

Someone, anyone, please tell me his name in bf2, I'd love to shoot Mork!
jc @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Robin Williams is awesome, definately one of my favorite actors.
This is better publicity than that Paris Hilton girl.
GlitchCog @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
That's pretty cool. His name's probably MrsDoubtfire577
I've heard he's a joke thief:

I thought the fact the Mr. Williams spent the time to talk to the people in Dundas was awesome, even though it was below zero. He actually got onto the front page of the city newspaper the next day with a picture of him and some random ladies dog :D
jackson @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
From the picture, it looks like Robin did not enjoy the interview as much as Kev did. Some annoying kid bothering me about videogames and insisting on a picture would bother me as well.

I read once that his daughter's name is Zelda. When people ask him, "Like Fitzgerald?," he replies, "No, like Miyamoto."
So awesome.

Got nothing but nice things to say about the guy - in person a prince.
There's no one alive who doesn't love at least 5 of this guy's movies. such a wide spectrum, everyone's in there somewhere!

I remember watching him talk about Quake III on Jay Leno several years ago. He was talking about how his son or daughter let him play, and how he got blown away in two seconds. And it was awesome because he was describing it in his usual Robin Williams spaz fashion. I'm glad that he's kept up with gaming.
bonzai @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Great guy it seems. Ive liked all his movies etc except maybe one. And thats not his fault... LOL.. would be an awesome pleasure to play bf2 against him. I like sniping myself sometimes.

As a stand-up comic myself, I have no respect for the guy. He's a joke thief. Same with Dane Cook. People love these losers because they're sooo funny. Well they're funny when the people they steal their jokes from are funny.
John FisH @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Boom headshot...that's awesome. I'd pick'em for the win!

I saw the interview on Leno, and he was talking about the original Quake, actually. Long time ago. He was going on about how he hopped into the game and BAM he gets killed and all he sees from his viewpoint is the guy running over his dead body and picking up his ammo.
Tony @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
I live in dundas also, but I didn't get to see him. He was only here for about 2 days, so there wasn't much chance. I heard about how people were crowding around him while he was here, taking pictures and asking for autographes. Imagine how annoying it would get if that was how people acted everywhere you went.

I remember there was an article on how Robin Williams used to play ALOT of the Day Of Defeat mod for half life 1.

I met him playing Quake years ago by chance. Back then he was using the nick "Lumpy"

This is great. I'd love to see a list of celebrities and they're favorite games...pretty interesting. I've read that Dave Chapelle plays WoW and read on Joe Rogan's site that he played Quake 3.

I remember watching an interview with him, I think for the movie Robots, and they asked if he has a computer and what kind of games he plays, and he said he had been playing HL2, and his son was making mods for it.

Foster- Perhaps he steals some jokes, and that's a shame if true, but the man is funny. It would be hard to argue that his delivery is not his own.
That aside, I just digg Robin Williams. I had no idea he played video games. Freaking awesome.
Jago @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
I remember seeing an interview he did for the old CD magazine "Launch" and he was talking about playing on line (I forget which game he was talking about)...but it was f*cking hilarious tho.
BlackYoshi @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
His daughter is also named Zelda, after his older son asked that he name her that because hes a big fan of the series. She is pretty good looking, too.
Conrad Quilty-Harper @ Dec 18th 2005 9:42PM
Ok, that's enough. Wanna talk about whether Robin Williams is an "unfunny asshat" or "a great guy"? Go elsewhere!
Wanna talk about the last time you met an online gamer that happened to be famous in t3h real wurldz? Then fire away!
It's all about being on-topic guys...

Wonder if he's sniped me b4, and if he's one I got back around to knifing?...lol
Would love to see him do some online gaming bit in his comedy act. Bet it would be a gut buster.
