Criterion's considering a shakeup of the Burnout formula,
if a survey sent out to interested crash-a-maniacs is to be believed.
Through a survey link Criterion sent to a reader via e-mail, one of the sections asked how adding certain features
would affect the likelihood of purchasing the next version of the game. The list included tuning, weapons, car
personalization (aka modding), crash-replay saving and sharing, licensed cars, motorcycles, and the ability to create
your own crash junctions.
We don't know whether surveying current and past Burnout fans is exactly the right way to keep a series
moving in the right direction, but it couldn't hurt to get some fan support (especially when you tinker with a popular
franchise, as with a movie/game adaptation of a classic TV show or book).
If you recall, a new feature to save and share crash replays was
announced for
the 360 version of Burnout Revenge just a few weeks ago, but there are precedents from Criterion?s racing
competitors both now and in the future for each of the features listed: tuning - Gran Turismo; weapons -
Full
Auto; modding - Need for Speed Underground; licensed cars - nearly everything else out there; and
motorcycles - Midnight Club, Polyphony Digital?s Tourist Trophy, and MotoGP (among
others). Would these features affect a future purchase for you?
