10 reasons Xbox 360 doesn't quite rock, yet

How many of these "10 reasons not to buy 360" posts can you get away with before you begin turning readers away as a biased news source? =/
A little critisism is good, but you've done several of these "10 reasons not to" posts from other sites, plus your "things I hate about 360" thing. Please.
How many times do we need to read about the same minor shortcomings as news? More like olds.
I hope your coverage on the PS3 wont be the same. Actually I do, because that would mean you're not biassed, just spiteful. That's not good.
And if you don't give PS3 the same treatment you'll be biased. Either way you lose. It's vicious circle.

Giving opinions on new consoles is always good, but there is only so much needed.

Cmon #1 if you read them you will see it all has to do with the interface. They are not biassed just showing what people have to say about the system, its not necciarly the opinions of joystiq.

This is the problem with all fanboy hardware discussions: It may be technically the best system currently on the market.

I care about the games, personally.

Let's face it, hardware wise the PS2 sucks. Aliasing problems. Low texture memory. Hard to develop for. Ugly.

But I loves me some Dragon Quest VIII and Metal Gear Solid 3 and Shadow of the Collosus and Kattarmari.

Honestly, despite some redundance, joystiq is here to post news and if someone came out with information important to its readers, it's appropriate to post. The XBOX360 has flaws and consumers and gamers alike should know about them. $400 is alot of money and I think that joystiq is doing the right thing by making people aware. Be in mind that I am not a particular fanboy of any system. I plan on picking up a 360 on the 18th and have loved my original XBOX since its release. Now, in response to #1's post, if the PS3 comes out and joystiq doesn't have an equal amount of negative comments about it, than congrats Sony. That does not mean Joystiq is biased, but that one company produced a less flawed system. Granted, I also feel it's appropriate that Joystiq portrays each systems' strengths as well, though for no reason should there be an equalibrium. Otherwise, readers wouldn't be hearing the truth, and that would be a disservice to us all.

Also, this isn't necessarily the same "WHY THE XBOX 360 SUCKS" articles as before. Hell, the "yet" in the title explains there's potential and room for things to be improved. It may not rock "yet" but with some restructuring, it will. Everything has room for improvement and the XBOX 360 is no different.

I thought it was a given that Joystiq was spiteful. Engadget is the same way. That's a good thing.

The Xbox 360 is the hot new console so it seems natural to me that it would get the majority of the spite. Right? If you're a fan of the system, you should just be happy it's getting so much attention.

I love the 360 fanboys who basically say "please stop talking about the Xbox 360!" I guess there's something to be said for enjoying your system in silence, but then why are you here?

Top 10 reasons Xbox 350 "Top 10" lists are getting old:

10. Since no one can actually find an Xbox 360, nothing left to do but read gaming blog "Top 10" lists.

9. People who own Xbox 360's have extra time to write "Top 10" lists since entire launch lineup can be beaten in 12 hours.

8. Only so many ways to show screenshots comparing King Kong's big toe "Next-gen" vs "Current-gen".

7. "Lack of 15280p support" probably not applicable to most people.

6. People reading gaming blogs over 14.4 modem in Indonesia not as interested in 800mb "Xbox Live" downloads.

5. "HDR lighting too dark" overweighed by fact that most people will only play "Halo 2" on their 360 for the next 4 months.

4. Too many blatant attempts by "Top 10" list authors to reference their high score in "Geometry Wars" in their reviews.

3. Too many in-depth examinations of DVD Tray eject button aesthetics.

2. Readers apathetic to critisisms of units overheating when placed under a couch.

I haven't mentioned for a few days and after this post I was inspired to do so once again. RATING SYSTEM FOR COMMENTS PLEASE! Once these pathetic trolls are gone, your site will be SO much better. I know you know this already but I just had to say it.

I've got two of these things and I agree: 360 does not rock yet. It's good, very good. But nothing it has done so far has rocked my world. The new XBox Live has come close but I'm waiting for the system to kick into high gear. Still, overall I'm glad I picked it up.

So #1, How long have you worked at Microsoft? Wimp.

No gaming console will ever fit the needs of the whole Sony vs. Microsoft divide. To appreciate these next-generation consoles, half a look at that grey brick-like shape the GameBoy started off as - then you'll forget about the little problems!

If people don't complain about this stuff, you'll end up with a crappy product that never gets fixed. Fanboys should be the people that complain the most.

Look at Apple and the scratched screens... The Apple fanboys say people are stupid for whining, but in the end, whining is what gets stuff fixed.

If a huge Nintendo fan, and if the Revolution has flaws, i'll be the first to point them out. That way, they can release updates that will fix those flaws. If I'm paying hundreds of dollars for something, I want it to be the best it can be.. and if it's not, I want it to be fixed until it is.

As for the topic at hand, if it's news relating to gaming, I expect to see it here at joystiq.com, regardless of which system it pretains to. Biased is only interpreted if you are aligned to only one system rather than gaming.

The biggest thing turning the 360 off to me is the price (my parents are millionaires but there is no way in hell I would fork out that much for something to play games) and the lack of games.

Somebody should make a top 10 reasons why the Xbox 360 and the PSP are so well suited.

I think it's funny that people get mad when a system is constantly bashed before they stop to think if the bashing is quite necessary. Think about it? What if the 360 really does suck? What if it really does have shortcomings? Why not continually post about it, so in such, the readers can in turn be aware that the system may not be worth their time?

Nobody would be complaining if these were, "Top Ten Reasons to Not Buy a Virtual Boy," posts. Why? Because we know the Virtual Boy is lame (although Mario Tennis is still double plus good).

I think the fact of the matter could very well be that the 360 just isn't going to live up the expectations of anybody but those who read 360 fanboy, but the masses just haven't seen it yet. There are flaws, they need to be worked out, and until they are it's best that everybody be aware of the fact that this shortage is a blessing. It's giving all of us who don't own one a chance to learn about what we aren't missing while we enque - leaving us with a better knowledge of how to spend our money.

Qhen I was at the Seattle meet up I learned that they editors have something that almost impossible to get in newspapers, magazines, or other forms of print; which is 100% creative control over their content. Why are magazines, and other gamer sites less biased? That's because they are in the pockets of the companies who they write about.

When you start talking the truth a little too much the Man has a tendency to get on your back; which in turn gives you serious repercussions from your editors. I know, I was an entertainment journalist for three years. Your editors don't like back talk; your advertisers don't like poor product reviews; and being a rebel gets you nowhere but to the end of the unemployment line.

To be able to post all the "Top 10 Reasons to Keep Your Money out of MS's Pocket," are actually a Godsend, and an amazing victory for journalist of all fields. If everyone who wrote in mainstream print had this sort of freedom I'm sure we would see a whole lot more negative reviews of many major systems; but until the machine stops feeding the writers their paychecks we're going to forced to continually follow the trails that lead to the most money.

LOL. Please get a life. Let me tell you about some stuff based in reality. Myself, and the other two people I know who ACTUALLY OWN a 360 love it. None of us have scratched discs, overheating, erasing saves, etc. None of us have any allegiance to Microsoft or the Xbox name. In fact, all 3 of us also own the original Xbox, PS2, GameCube, Dreamcast, etc (I actually own all consoles from the Channel F to present). The "TRUTH" does not hurt. Your comments are simply irritating and brings down the quality of the site. That was my only point.

I like my Xbox but right now I dont like the 360. To be frank I think its a disgrace because it was so rushed. Xbox 1 had quality launch titles (well, Halo). Xbox 1.5 has no title.

The difference between the 2 is absurd. GangWay is just coming across as a bit of a sad act by saying 360-haters (or even the more gentler 'non-likers') are fanboys. moron.

You know what though, we don't live in a perfect world. If everything was always perfect I'd be concerned with the people creating the products. I'll tell you a problem though, it's always the bad stuff we're concentrating on. Whenever you get a test, it's always the "X's" people look at, never the checkmarks. It's time to get over ourselves people. When you buy a system, ask yourself this one question, "am I enjoying myself when I play this machine... Is it fun?" If the answer is always no, then you better reconsider your purchase, but if it's not, you have it made. Everything else is superfluous. There's my 2cents.

I don't think the Xbox 360 sucks. It's quite good at what it does. Unfortunately it doesn't have a lot of varieties of games to cater to different folks. Obviously those that like the PS2, like Japanese developed games since there are an abundance of those. Microsoft need more of those developers/games to bring over PS2 fanboys. In any case, its not the hardware that sux, its the opinion of those that like the genres Xbox 360 lack.

I can assure you those that enjoy FPS, will totally dig Xbox 360. People who grew up with Japanese RPG's starting since Nintendo NES will favor Sony.

I'll admit it, I'm a Xbox 360 'fanboy' after owning it a few weeks. It is a great device, and has brought me a lot of entertainment value. I've done practically everything that its capable of, such as playing/completing most of the released games and streaming audio and video -- it was well worth the money.

However, I'm mature enough to realize being a fanboy does not limit myself to only one system. That's why I have all current and previous consoles. And have no problem pre-ordering the PS3 when it's available.

In regards to some folks who do not bring anything informative to the discussion rather confrontation with other fanboys, you're just fueling fire if you reply to them. Let it go, ignore is your best response.

I've had my premium bundle since launch and been playing Kameo, PGR3, COD2 and Madden '06 and I have had not problems whatsoever. I think the graphics are very good, even at standard television resolution. I can hook it up to my flat panel comp monitor too (when I have company that wants to play, I move it to the reg tv). Eventually, like next month, I will have myself a really nice HDTV to hook it up to and all will be good then. But even at this stage in my current setup, I have no complaints at all.

Now I'm waiting on the Revo to come out. Don't know about Sony PS3 yet. Right now, their attitude and their motives/motivation does not bode well to my liking.

GangWay you have a lot to learn about opinions. My opinion is that its a POS, as you elegantly put it. It's aesthetically hideous, it's massively overpriced, there are no big hit games for it - which are also grossly overpriced, the media centre is severely lacking compared to a much cheaper Xbox modded with XBMC, you still have to pay to play online, it's graphics are not that much better than the current Xbox, it's using the same disc format for Christ's sake! Charging WAY too much for a wireless adapter?

I have an open mind about systems when they are announced, but when I play one and become underwhelmed at a system that costs £350 and read up about it. Well... its just not a good thing really. On paper it has potential. But for me, who has (and plays) all the major consoles since the 80's I can really say that this machine is just crap. Japan know that.
