Myself? I won't buy this. I already have Quake 4 on my gaming PC (aka; the machine that does nothing at all except play games - the ONLY thing that Windows has over mac). And if this gets ported to the Rev with that marvellous controller then I'll stop playing the PC version for use a, theoretically, better aiming method.

Why is it always big news when a video game comes out on the Mac?

mandarin - The news isn't important because it is just coming out for the Mac. New Mac games come out all the time, big whoop.

What makes this news it that it is being designed for both PowerPC and Intel Macs.

I suppose the purchase would be worth it if you were getting a more stable build of Q4 and greater performance since OSX has some different demands on your system. But, if I had a MAC I'd hit it.

Well, that's it. If they're so far along that developers are capable of making the binarys for the intel chips, then the end is nearly upon us. I will probably never forgive Apple for abandoning PPC. It's possibly the worst mistake they have ever made. IBM is just now getting into their groove with the arch, and now they're dropping it for 32bit x86!?! It's insanity! Intel has to be giving them sooooo much money, it's the only thing that can possibly explain dropping such a well designed arch for the crap we've been using since the 386!

Okay, I'm done ranting. Not to mention that this just gives developers an excuse not to make PPC versions of games anymore.

Ehh...the game wasn't all that great. It's just another brainless FPS co-created by ID.

Syco: the primary reason for the Intel-switch (as I understand it after reading countless articles on the subject) is that IBM was unwilling and unable to make an attractive low-power version of the G5 for laptops, and since laptops are a pretty huge chunk of Apple's hardware lineup they had to switch. Personally I think the Mac will lose some of it's unique appeal but in the end it's all about OS X and whatever makes it run faster on my PowerBook is all fine with me.

If they were planning to keep it to mobile chips, that I'd have NO problem with. Hell, Intel makes a decent mobile chip, though not really as good as the AMD chips. It's the looming possibility of a Intel Powermacs that really angers me.

Unfortunately Half-Life 2 is not in the works. The reason being the owners of the Havoc physics engine have no interest in Mac gaming and are basically not allowing it to be ported. Ok, not quite true, they just want an astronomical fee.

I would never dual boot a new Intel Mac. But I would be interested in running a new Virtual PC on the Mac. It'll be up to Microsoft to see if they can get VPC to run at full native speed on an Intel Mac.
