In an odd pairing for a double interview, Official PlayStation Magazine offers up Q&As with SCEA prez Kaz
Hirai and MS CVP J Allard. Thankfully, for everyone involved, J's a fan and continued reader of the mag
dedicated to the rival of his company's multimedia machines. Console talk ensues.
For instance, J points out the specific strengths of each respective company: Microsoft?s focus on Live and a higher
quality online experience versus Sony?s expertise in hardware and slimmed-down PlayStations. At the very least, we
learn that J actually earned 450 points on the 360 before the record wipe at launch, meaning he doesn?t really
hate Rare after
all.
Kaz, on the other hand, focused on the non-advantage console first-movers have, and the theory that ?good revenue on
the PS2 and PSP? will allow ?people to go spend it on PS3 development? (something the 360 should also have to some
extent with original Xbox development, and the Revolution with GameCube and especially portable designs).
While the post at 1UP?s dated 12.13.2005, J talks as if the 360 hadn?t launched yet, which would make sense for a
magazine with a long lead time before its eventual publication. Nonetheless, both men make lots of insightful comments,
due in no small part to interviewers who were willing to ask hard questions and retain a sense of objectivity (which is
no small task for an official platform magazine). J?s call for fewer fanboy factions was most certainly
appreciated.
