Last month, Elevation Partners announced that they were
merging their two development studios Pandemic (Full
Spectrum Warrior) and BioWare (Jade Empire) into one super developer. Now, it seems the super developer
may try to break new ground. In what would be a first for a non-publishing developer, Pandemic / BioWare has announced
plans to go public.
By going public, Elevation's super studio could reap in a larger share of profits and have more creative control over
its work, but at a higher financial risk if a project should fall below expectations. However, with BioWare's
impressive track record of successful titles, especially in the realm of RPG's, this move might prove to be a
profitable venture for the company. Could this also be one step towards Bioware / Pandemic self-publishing its own
titles? Online?
[Thanks, bandersnatch]

Anyone remember Advent Rising? The game made by a publicly traded company that was forced out the door six months shy of greatness by the shareholders. Wallstreet and game development isn't a good mix.

I'll invest in the company if the prospectus is good and if I get free chocolates.
Seriously, though, I can't see how they wouldn't want to integrate vertically and start some sort of self-publishing arm. It makes too much sense.
