Following the success of
King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie,
Ubisoft have announced that they plan more movie tie-ins, with an aim of getting 25% of their turnover from the genre.
This is good news for Ubisoft, and potentially good news for consumers as well—after all, King Kong's review scores
show it to be a particularly innovative member of the tie-in family.
However, we have to hope that Ubisoft won't go the way of EA and churn out a barrage of dull and repetitive titles
whenever a new movie is released. The words "movie tie-in" automatically drain gamers of any hope of originality, which
Ubisoft will have to work against. Here's hoping we'll see games that provide new angles and added depth to films,
rather than boring franchise exploitation.
