To promote their new line of Xbox 360 sports titles, 2K Sports will be
giving away 15 free MP3s. The artists include the usual crop of videogame soundtrack bands we’ve never heard of;
however, there are a significant number of quality —
if not mainstream — acts available including Trans Am, Ghost Face, The Roots, and Common.
It’s great to see promotions like this where they offer MP3 tracks free of the encumbrances of proprietary DRM’d formats. The promotion actually encourages you to redistribute (we call that “regifting” around these parts) the tracks to friends: “And you can send them to a buddy so they can no longer blame you for never giving them anything.” Thanks for the freebies 2K Sports, it’s really generous of you… but I still think the players in NBA 2K6 look like zombies.
