The UK games chart is full of surprises this week, as the bookies finally pay out to
those who correctly predicted the Christmas Number One.
Defying the predictions, it’s Need for Speed: Most
Wanted at the top of the chart, with King
Kong coming in a roaring second and Call of Duty 2, despite its problems, at third. This brings EA their third consecutive
Christmas at the top spot.
The other favourites, Harry Potter and Narnia, have
slipped further down the chart—perhaps the public’s desire for movie tie-ins has been overshadowed by the
allure of next-gen, or perhaps the fact that Need for Speed is more kid-friendly helped, with a lower rating
(3 ) than both of them (7 ). At any rate, we wish we’d had the foresight to put some money on NFS; maybe
next year.
